Grants available to help cut loneliness in over-50s

by Lib Dem Team on 18 August, 2016

Local councillors are urging groups to bid for grants from the Brookfield Shiers Family Trust.

Iain says “We want to be flexible and help groups apply for this money. Perhaps there’s an improvement to a local park which will encourage more people to use it – that could easily qualify. Please don’t hold back, but get your applications in soon. We want to put this money to good use.”

As the Council reports:

The funding is available for both existing and future projects that address the effect of loneliness amongst people aged 50 years or older and the consequential effect on their health.

The projects have to benefit residents of the former Cheadle and Gatley Urban District Council, which primarily covers the Cheadle and Gatley, Cheadle Hulme North, Cheadle Hulme South and Heald Green Wards, although the organisations applying for the grants need not necessarily be located in these areas.

The closing date for applications is 2nd September 2016.

The Brookfield Park Shiers Family Trust was formed from a Deed of Gift to the then Cheadle and Gatley Urban District Council in 1945 by Percy Hesketh Shiers. The Cheadle Area Committee acts as the Trustee for the Council.

Would there be any chance of improving the running track for the many Gatley and Cheadle public to get fit. Loads of people use the track and kids too with their little bikes.
A cycle lane round the outside would be great for improving our kids healths. An outdoor gym as in many parks would be a great addition.
Any one else feel the same?
