Greenbelt building proposals out next week

by Lib Dem Team on 16 September, 2016

Proposals for how Greater Manchester will develop over the coming years, including which green spaces might be built on, are due to be published next week.

The Lib Dem team will be keeping you informed. We believe our public green spaces must be protected. Green space should only be built on as a last resort.

We need more homes and business premises if we’re to grow our economy, create more jobs and allow our children to own their own homes as we have. But we must not take the easy way out and allow building on the greenbelt simply because it’s cheaper, or because it’s the easiest way for a developer to make a fat profit.

This week the Manchester Evening News have published a story about all the sites developers want to build on across Greater Manchester. It’s great to have the coverage on this important issue, but they’re a little late: the Lib Dems reported the same story back in March!

Is it A forgone conclusion that the Cheadle College playing fields are to be built upon? A team armed with theodolites surveying North Downs Road last month has me on warning. Surely the access to the field from North Downs is not wide enough to service access to any decent sized development be it for new residents of construction vehicles.
