Labour Council chiefs have finally dropped plans to only collect black bins once every three weeks.
“Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign against these daft proposals,” said Cllr Iain Roberts. “Labour wanted to throw out all the existing black bins, hand out 100,000 new – slightly larger – ones and then only empty them every three weeks. This was meant to somehow save money!”
Labour instead look to have adopted the Lib Dem proposal of investing money in better information and education to help people recycle more.
“The more we can all recycle, the more money we can save and the more the Council can spend on other things,” said Iain.

I noticed that the stupid (between November and May) weekly bin collections are still being made. I that a huge waste? Sure collections once every 3 weeks during that period would be more than sufficient?
So much of the rubbish in the black bins is plastic contaminated with food waste, how is that not going to smell in the summer ??
Wash it out before putting it in the black bin
In order to save some money, perhaps the frequency of the green bin collection could be reduced over the winter period when garden rubbish is reduced?
It’s a thought but some of us have big gardens and use the green bins throughout the winter. My bins are always full.
The green bin is also used for food waste, and whilst it is less of a problem in winter, food will smell and attract vermin/pests
