Councillors act on rising crime

by Lib Dem Team on 18 January, 2017

We’ve seen a big jump in crime locally, including thefts from cars, sheds and homes, thefts of high-value cars, anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

The problem isn’t confined to Cheadle and Gatley – there’s a similar rise across Stockport, Greater Manchester and much of the UK.

“After last year’s budget when the Conservatives cut Police funding, we warned that this was likely to happen. Now we have to do everything we can to deal with the consequences.” said Cllr Iain Roberts.

Councillors are working with the Police, Council officers and anyone else who can help to make sure there’s an organised approach to tackling the issues. That can range from making sure the different agencies are aware of problems residents report to us, to publicizing issues and Police advice and working on longer-term strategies.

“It’s very important that we all report crimes or attempted crimes when we spot them by dialling 101 or 999 if it’s an emergency. As residents, we can all help the Police build up a picture of where the problems are so they can target their limited resources as effectively as possible.” said Cllr Graham Greenhalgh.

We all pay for Police but we rarely see any on the Streets detecting and deterring crime, we need a zero tolerance.
I don’t believe the average Police officer is to blame for the poor service we all receive , I put the blame on the Chief Cunstable and his senior officer cronies who all all over paid when compared to the average dedicated hard working Police Officer.
Let’s support the officer on the beat when we see them and let’s pressure the Police Management to start and support their dedicated officers

The public want to see a great police presence on the streets. The powers that be should be considering the numbers of supervisors in proportion to full time beat officers also the number of specialized department that drain street presence.
Like me many will remember a time when Cheadle and Gatley had 4 resident beat officers as well as cover from 2 motorised officers.
As a member of the public I would like to see that level of service return.

If this situation continues, I believe people will be forced to hire a private security operation, to fill the void left by our public services. It may even be the case that this is what the current government has planned all along.

In defence of the Police a few weeks before Xmas on a saturday night my wife woke to hear somebody trying our back door it was before Midnight . I got up and could see somebody in my Garden so immediately called the police. Within the time it took the call responder to take all details 3 police cars arrived one being the dog van. Unfortunately whoever it was was gone . The police said their quick response was down to good luck being local when the call came in so in the background they are all there its just they are not so visible these days.

    Ian
Pleased to hear that there was a fast police response and that there was no damage or theft from your premises
My point is that police presence deters criminals good policing cannot always be quantified you cannot put a tick in a box for street presence. Who can tell how many potential criminals are deterred by the beat Bobby.
