Police counter changes

by Lib Dem Team on 13 February, 2017

The Police are closing their Fred Perry House counters in Stockport – though there will still be access for people who make appointments. Fred Perry House is the council building next to the Town Hall where the Police currently have their public counter for the town centre.

The counter at Cheadle Heath Police Station will remain open.

Opening hours at Cheadle Heath will change from 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 10am-6pm Saturday-Sunday from February 27, 2017

Here’s what the Police say about the change:

We’ve made this decision after a lot of work, lots of conversations with you and the people that we work alongside (such as your council) and after a full public consultation that almost 2000 people responded to.

The review of our counters has been running since 2015 and has considered the changes that could be made to ensure services are being used in the most effective way, with resources being redirected to more popular methods of contact as a result of findings, like getting in touch online or over the phone.

We are transforming policing in Greater Manchester and these changes will help us focus on meeting demand that already exists. We need people’s continued support as we make changes to ensure we are focused on keeping people safe and providing the best service possible.

The review found that the 10 counters due to close generated just 18% of demand across the whole of Greater Manchester. Some, such as the counter at Horwich Police Station, saw as little as 1 member of the public attending the PEC per day during the review.

Almost 2000 people responded to GMP’s survey on how they access services, with just 10 per cent saying they had been in to a public enquiry counter in the last 10 years but half of respondents (50 per cent) saying they had looked at GMP’s website or contacted them online.

Get in touch with us in the following ways now, or after the changes have taken effect in February:

  • Using the yellow phone outside one of our stations
  • Calling 101 or 999 in an emergency
  • Calling your local policing team (just search for your area on this website)
  • Social media
  • Visiting another police station
  • Speaking to a police officer or police community support officer while they’re on patrol
  • Email your local neighbourhood policing team

Opening hours will change from the times noted above but what will they change to?

I am sorry to say the Police Service has become a joke, the criminals must love all the iniatives that so called senior Police managers have applied.
We still have very Proffesional dedicated Police Officers who unfortunately do not get sufficient support from the Chief Counstable.
To do their job the Police need daily contact with the public and closing yet another point of contact will be counter productive.

June, I wondered if it was a typo and they meant the times were changing ‘to…………’
