Wine bar in Barclays building may be open in six months

by Lib Dem Team on 20 March, 2017

Following the planning approval for a wine bar/champagne bar in Gatley’s old Barclays Bank building (opposite the Horse & Farrier), work is now underway and the builders are in.

We’re told that the new wine bar may be open inside six months, so we’ll look forward to seeing it progress.

When Barclays announced the closure of the branch, the local community and local councillors campaigned against the move. Sadly, Barclays ignored us and closed anyway. At least this way the building comes back into active use – and it’s not another takeaway!

It should have been left as a bank

  2. John Hartley says:

There’s a long history to a bank there. The Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank opened there in 1910 – prior to that I believe the site was the village post office.

Can we get the road fixed at the bottom of Hollyhedge Road where it meets Styal Road please? Thanks. Personally, I’m not interested in yuppy wine bars, Gatley doesn’t need one. Why don’t we try and concentrate on getting something Gatley doesn’t have for a change? And Co-op in The Tatton? I hope there will be suitable parking….Gatley surgery is going to suffer, as people will park in their car park and patients won’t get a look in, has all this been looked at?

  4. Lib Dem Team says:

HI Evelyn – yes, parking has been looked at with the new Tatton plans.

We try to work for everyone. Lots of people are very pleased at the idea of a new wine bar, though it’s not a council project of course but it’s not for everyone. There’s lots more going on as well.

I got chatting to the owner of the wine bar today. He told me there’ll be food on offer as well as booze so it looks like this could be a good addition to the area

    How exciting cant wait

  7. Jane says:

Well I think the wine bar is a great thing. Firstly, it’s not another takeaway & secondly, it’s different to the other watering holes in the village which are typical ‘boozers’ (although the outdoor lighting at the Horse & Farrier looks fabulous as you drive into Gatley at night, it looks like a lovely country village place). I really hope the wine bar succeeds.

  8. Bruce says:

Looks a good idea – when Costa open they will be two reasonable additions for the locals.

  9. Alan says:

I think the days are long gone when wine bars were considered ‘yuppy ‘
This can only be good if it’s not a takeaway or another Indian restaurant

You mention that parking has been looked at with the new Tatton Plans, out of interest where are these plans? Is there a planning reference for the SMBC Planning Portal? Thanks, David.

If there is more alcohol available then alcohol related ” disturbances ” will surely occur, let’s see if everyone cheering now are still upbeat.

  12. Barbara says:

alcohol related disturbances??????where in Gatley do these take place!!!!!! I look forward to the wine bar……whoopee!!!!!cant wait…….

  13. Anthony Berg says:

I am amazed that anyone is stupid enough to complain about either the Costs, wine bar or co-op at Tatton plans
We moved to Gatley 10 years ago and have seen other areas such as Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall etc flourish whilst Gatley had remained in a time warp
I wish all the new ventures well and hope more businesses will now come to Gatley

  14. Steve says:

Can’t wait for it to open, the landlord at the farrier needs some competition, he has ruined the farrier with his arrogance so I hope the wine bar takes his custom
