Mark Hunter to stand for Lib Dems in Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 20 April, 2017

Councillor and former MP Mark Hunter will be the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cheadle constituency. Local Councillor Lisa Smart will be the Liberal Democrat candidate for the constituency of Hazel Grove at the General Election on June 8th 2017.

Mark and Lisa have a track record of campaigning for better services at Stepping Hill Hospital, standing up against Conservative and Labour plans to bulldoze our greenbelt and winning fights to keep local buses on the road.

In this election Hazel Grove is a clear fight between hard working local Councillor Lisa Smart and the Conservatives. In Cheadle only Mark Hunter can beat the Tories. The other parties are out of the race.

The Labour Party are a mess. Fighting among themselves rather than fighting the government. Only the Liberal Democrats will stand up against this Conservative government.

Tim Farron MP, leader of the Lib Dems said,“This election is your chance to change the direction of our country.

“If you want to avoid a disastrous Hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the Single Market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance.”

Lisa added, “As a local Councillor it’s a privilege to stand up for residents at the Town Hall. I’m keen to take that fight to Westminster.”

Good to hear, but, begs the question…
Would a vote for UKIP still be of ‘service’ to him?
    !-)

  2. John Hartley says:

No. The only vote that really helps any candidate is the one cast for them.

  3. Roy says:

I will only vote for a candidate that is fully committed to Brexit, and not one who is intent on supporting EU membership through the back door, and constantly negative about Great Britain and its abilities.

    • Ian says:

With you 100% there Roy and from my straw poll with others the majority are too. Its a pity Mark is a Good man . I will not vote LD with their attitude towards Brexit.

  4. Linda says:

I agree with Roy. Also I have met with Mark Hunter on a couple of occasions and find he only listens to what he wants to hear.

  5. Ian says:

REALLY BAD interview and answers from Tim Farron just now on Robert Peston show.

  6. John H says:

Don’t make Brexit a big issue you will lose votes

  7. Bruce says:

Imagine a nightmare coalition? Labour/SNP/ and the Libdems. Corbyn as PM, Salmond as deputy and Cable as chancellor.

  8. Bruce says:

Anyway – it has only been a few days and I am sick of it already. Why can’t we a period of a few years where the only elections are local?
    Halcyon days.

What’s the stay in Europe campaign for? We had a referendum, we’re out, so all this hot air about hard and soft brexit is really nonsense. We (the UK) need a strong leadership right now to deal with the non-elected dictators running Europe in order to get the best deal we can. This may be hard, it may not. Nothing against Mark, he did a lot as MP, but it’s more important to have a a strong leader/government than not right now.

  10. Trevor Gaunt says:

It’s a huge mistake by the LibDems to make this election about (just) Brexit, which was decided last June. The fight should be about our NHS, police, prisons, defence, education, Tory cuts, May’s opportunism, changes of mind in order to gain personal advantage – remainer to leaver, no need for an election to calling one – her appalling record as Home Secretary, nepotism in respect of her husband’s business etc. Can we believe anything this Prime Minister says or should we assume it must be for her personal advantage?
Whatever one’s political leaning, the country needs a credible opposition to keep the government of the day in check and prevent inappropriate extreme measures being put in place. However, the Tory press continues to seek to destroy Corbyn’s credibility. One has to question their agenda and whether it is for the good of our country.
Despite Tim Farron’s optimistic statements, the LibDems will not be in a position to form a government after this election. As for his assurance that he will not under any circumstances enter into a coalition with one or more other parties, did we not hear something similar from his predecessor Nick Clegg prior to a previous election, following which the LibDems formed a coalition government with Cameron’s Tories?

  11. John Hartley says:

    Trevor

Whatever anyone’s political leanings, I would have thought that Farron could be taken at his word on this one. You just have to look at the electoral disaster Clegg led the LDs into to know no-one’s about to make that mistake again.

  12. Afzal Chaudhri says:

Good news > MARK HUNTER for CHEADLE MP
all my support is and will be for Mark.

We do want him back as MP

    AFZAL

  13. David Johnson says:

I also applaud the work done by Mark Hunter and would welcome his return to Parliament. It is actions that count and records of previous actions that swing me towards the Liberal Democratic party for our locality. Those records push me firmly away from the other contenders.
