Gatley conservation area mapped

by Lib Dem team on 13 July, 2017

This is for information as we get asked the question every now and again. This map shows the Gatley conservation area along with the three listed buildings in Gatley.

We’ll do the same for Cheadle soon.

Ridiculous… this represents just another ‘power-grab’ by the ‘busy-bodies’ of the Council – both the elected and the officious.
There may be a case for some such protection around the Green and Gatley Hill House, but, beyond that? – beggars belief.
Gatley is not some ‘model village’ (Bournville, Saltaire…) nor is it some particularly historic village (Eyam, Laycock…) – it is simply a standard, unremarkable suburb!

    • John Hartley says:

Whilst I’d agree that most of Gatley is unremarkable suburbia, the area within the conservation area contains the main history of what was a village – a history dating back centuries. It’s a history not just of buildings but of the people who lived in them. There’s a good story waiting to be told about them – keep your eye on the Village Partnership website 😉

Are there no conservatives outside this area?

  3. Iain Roberts says:

We’re working on that one, Robert 🙂

  4. David Johnson says:

I fail to understand the point made by DR C – is he advocating buildings on the Recreation Ground and The Festival fields and sports areas? To me protecting those areas are necessary towards a stable and functioning community. I would even wish for more space to be preserved from short term profiteering or manipulation.

    • DR C says:

      Concerning the obtusity of DJ…
NO – one is not advocating developing the green spaces, rather, the removal of any added protection which the status affords to the many mediocre buildings within the area.
