Local war historian John Hartley has a new book out. It’s a history of the 6th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, in the First World War. The Battalion was the local Stockport area Territorial unit, drilling at the Armoury and also recruited in the wider North Cheshire area, including Hyde, Stalybirdge as well as Glossop.
It’s available from the publisher as well as the usual places, like Amazon and Waterstones online. The publishers also have a sale on for his last book Bully Beef & Biscuits – Food in the Great War, which draws heavily on the Stockport home front experience.
