Have your say on Stockport’s future: health, culture and communities

by Lib Dem team on 12 September, 2017

The Lib Dem team want you to have your say on Stockport’s health, culture and communities over the next 20 years.

Stockport is drawing up its Local Plan. There are five different topics and we’ll be looking at one each week. The Lib Dems on Stockport Council will be putting our submission in and we want to include your views. Of course, you can also have your say directly.

The questions the Council wants to answer on homes are:

  1. What facilities do you think are most important to have in your local area to help support a good quality of life?
  2. How and where do you think those important uses and facilities should be provided?
  3. How can the Local Plan balance the need to ensure land is available for development with the need to create places where people want to live?
  4. Do you have any other comments about the various types of community facilities in Stockport?

To help, we’ve included the Council’s briefing paper on health, culture and communities.  It’s 7 pages long and worth a quick read before you give your answers.

Over the next few weeks Stockport Council is consulting on its Local Plan. This is the first of three sets of consultations on the plan, and its important. It will shape our borough for the next twenty years: what our town and village centres look like, what jobs we have, where people live, our health, parks, green spaces and more.

You can read all the documents and have your say on any part of it here.

Why can’t we have more flats/apartments for first time buyers in the centre of Stockport which are affordable. You want to bring life back into the centre yet you omit places to live and just build places for shopping, entertainment and office blocks. To me this just brings more traffic into the town centre during the busiest time of the day. The areas around Manchester are just turning into mini London areas like a few years ago. We need less buy to let and more Council run housing. I also feel HS2 is going to help no ordinary person as they stated a few weeks ago that it would be good for House price rises once it is built. Not a good idea.

Also can’t believe the amount of houses being built on the. Corner of Stonepail close and am sure non will be affordable for the younger generation. It appears to me No one seems to fight for these types of Houses in Gatley or opposes these expensive houses being built and that is from any political party.

Sport on Arthur – we need more homes in the centre of Stockport, especially around transport hubs.
