Andy Burnham’s team have let us know that the number 24 bus service (Stockport – Didsbury – Chorlton – Stretford – Salford Quays) will be scrapped from the end of October.

Fair enough, use it or lose it !
Obviously an insufficient ‘bandwagon’ for Burnham to jump on 😉

I hope DR C will reflect on that comment when he is finding it hard to get to local shops etc in his old age.

      • DR C says:

Fortunately ‘decrepitude’ be many years off for moi !
Shopping should be be much easier by then – if there are any shops to actually shop in !!

Did this service travel via Cheadle / Gatley, because if it did I for one have never seen it.
People will use public transport when it is convenient reliable and cost effective, so let’s start by making public transport all of these things, we could start by sending every 4th bus that arrives at the Parrs Wood terminus up Kingsway to Gatley traffic lights turning left through Cheadle High Street turning left down Manchester Road back through Parrs Wood, this would link all Parrs Wood / Metro services with service’s running from Stockport to Wythenshawe and Altrincham and give local residents of Gatley and Cheadle the opportunity of accessing the regular public transport routes which operate out of Parrs Wood.
Seems a simple cheap solution that links services and people and reduces congestion at the terminus as the drivers operating via Cheadle wood take their legal rest breaks in Manchester.

A misleading headline. This service was never introduced. What we have here is the outcome of a trial. Trials are used to see if something works. This trial had a negative result.

Roy’s comment is so apt. What an ideal & helpful solution! But I guess that there’s no chance of it happening. It is too sensible!

  5. Barbara says:

The suggestion made by Roy is an excellent idea but as others have said far too sensible for our local councillors to do anything about.

    • bruce says:

Don’t blame the local councillors – it is a commercial enterprise. Nobody is going to run a route like that.

  6. Kerry Armitage says:

Poor council. Poor councillors. Cheadle always last, back of the queue .. we’re back in the 1980’s!

  7. David Maycock says:

we have one on Silverdale up St Anns to Heald Green now i have noticed but nobody on it so will probably go the same way
