Neighbourhood Policing Team update

by Lib Dem team on 8 December, 2017

From our local police:

Through the release of the winter newsletter last week, we highlighted ‘Theft from Motor Vehicle’ crimes as a local priority for the Cheadle Neighbourhood Team. We are extremely pleased to see that this has not continued as a pressing issue with just 1 incident of this nature reported in December so far! Despite this we will still continue to conduct surgeries/prevention events and pay close attention to this as a priority following the recent spate in October/November.

The second common priority across the Cheadle beats was burglary in the run up to Christmas. Where ‘Residential Burglary’ is concerned, we have had 8 incidents so far in December. In contrast to the usual trend of overnight burglaries, of the 8 burglaries, 6 have been daytime, particularly around 6pm. This could be a result of darker nights, more people being out in the early evenings, or just individual targets/opportunities. As posted on social media earlier today, we have had incidents of burglary where offenders have interfered with security light sensors prior to gaining access to a property. Please encourage residents to check their sensors are all functioning and in place, as these can be tampered with days in advance of any burglary attempts.

GOOD NEWS: 5 males were arrested yesterday for numerous ‘Rogue Trader’ offences in the Bramhall area. Recent crimes we are aware of include offenders offering to do work for ridiculous prices and getting victims to go to the bank and withdraw large amounts of cash! We will be announcing the arrests on Facebook and asking for anyone else who has been affected by this type of crime to come forward with any information. We have had some really useful information provided by residents already and are hoping to add to this to get more arrests!

  1. Stuart Thompson says:

Several years ago, I discovered that the security light in my drive no longer lit up when I got out of the car. The reason was that the sensor had been turned through 180 degrees. I turned it back to the correct position and filled the gap between the sensor and the mounting post with superglue. Within 5 minutes, it was rock solid so I applied this treatment to other less obvious sensors around the property. Would-be burglars are advised that any future attempts at tampering produce very satisfactory videos of the miscreants
