Police report, 9th January 2018

by Lib Dem team on 10 January, 2018

From the Police:

Unfortunately, over the weekend, the Cheadle area experienced a spike in Residential Burglaries with a total of 16 being recorded between Thursday 04/01/18- Monday 09/01/18. These Burglaries were spread across the entire Cheadle area, with addresses in Cheadle(5), Gatley(5), Cheadle Hulme(3), and Heald Green(3) being targeted. Fortunately, many of these Burglaries were disturbed by residents inside the addresses. Offenders were often disturbed while in the process of trying to gain entry to rear/patio doors through various means and as a result in most of these cases, no property was stolen.

Two of these crimes were shed breaks where property such as bikes, and fishing gear were taken. The three most recent crimes, all occurred overnight in Cheadle and Gatley between midnight and 3:40am 09/01/18, and were all garage breaks. One of these three garage breaks was disturbed due to a security light bringing the offender to the attention of the resident. Please ensure that the rear of your property is as well lit as possible, and perhaps install a security sensor light if you do not already have one in place.

Following the update on 02/01/18, we have had two further instances of vehicle registration plates being stolen from vehicles, although this issue appears to have reduced, it is still ongoing and vehicle owners should continue to be vigilant.

Despite the above spike in burglary crime, there have been some good news stories/ arrests made in Cheadle over the weekend and into this week. The below information is set to be publicised on the ‘GMP Cheadle and Bramhall’ Facebook and Twitter accounts.

  • Two males were arrested Yesterday by GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit for working as Bogus Traders targeting elderly residents in the Gatley Area.
  • Burglar Team Arrest! Two males were arrested and released under investigation yesterday on suspicion of 2 shed breaks in Heald Green over the weekend and also other theft related crimes including walking up and down driveways and trying door handles.
  • A 14 year old male has been arrested and charged with the 12 vehicle damage offences that took part on 16th December in Cheadle.

  1. I will be very interested to learn the outcome of the youth arrested for car damage.

Without knowing anything about the case or the youth involved, I can guarantee you that his crime certainly won’t end up in court. It will be diverted away to be dealt with by some other PC madness in order to keep the crime stats down.

…,.2 weeks safari, all expenses paid no doubt!!
