Litter picks/Spring Clean
There are litter picks planned across the country this weekend, as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign. The litter pick planned for 3rd March will now be at 10.30am on Saturday 10th March, meeting at Gatley Green. Litter picks will be postponed if the bad weather means they might be dangerous. More information here.
Gritting and grit bins
The Council is gritting roads. Gritting is not a magic solution though. It can be washed away by rain and covered up by snow. Gritting works best on busy roads – the tyres of cars and lorries grinds the snow into the salt grit, making it melt more quickly.
The council will grit main routes first.
If there is time and resource the Council also grits the secondary routes. Most residential roads will not be gritted.
There are nine grit bins in Cheadle & Gatley – six of them on the Lakes estate. These are on steep residential roads or paths and should be kept topped-up by the council. The grit is for use on public roads and footpaths, not on private driveways!
You can request additional gritting or a grit bin to be refilled here.
Note: as of 1st March the council say they are NOT able to respond to gritting requests. Grit bins should be filled and the gritting routes on the map should be done (at least the main ones) but smaller roads will not be gritted, so please be aware and take care.
