New yellow lines at South View and Turnfield

by Lib Dem team on 5 March, 2018

The Lib Dem team is pleased to see that yellow lines agreed on Turnfield Road and near South View Gardens have now been painted.

“Following concerns from local residents we have approved these lines for safety reasons. It’s important that people do not park near a junction and that fire engines and ambulances are able to get through,” said Iain.

“We have listened to different views and believe this is a sensible approach. It doesn’t fix all the problems, but it does help improve safety for residents of Turnfield, Cringle and South View Gardens.”

Thanks it is a great improvement for the corners, have you thought about putting bollards on the pavements up to the end of the flats. I know the dustbin men didn’t empty the bins 2 weeks ago as a car was parked so far onto the pavement that they couldn’t get them through. I have seem people with pushchairs and dogs having to go into the road to get through also. Personally I think this is unexceptable, but it’s not against the law. Bollards should sort that out. Just saying xxxx 2 Turnfield Rd.

It’s great that the yellow lines have moved parked vehicles off the corners of Turnfield Rd.

However, parking now not only extends further along the road but also onto the pavements. The pavements are not usable due to this illegal parking and the road space in too narrow – God help anyone needing the emergency services.

As Turnfield and Cringle Roads are effectively a dead end – you only need to be there I f you live there or are visiting – can this not be made Access Only? And what about drivers speeding up and down the congested Turnfield rd with its bend and limited sight lines?

What a waste of yellow paint!

Yes,the visibility at the junction with Schools Hill has been massively improved but the same vehicles are now moving further up Turnfield and parking on both sides blocking both the footpaths and the road.

It’s actually worse than it was before.

  4. Safety Concerns says:

This HAS NOT solved the problem….in fact it has made it much worse. The stretch of Turnfield Road from the point where the lines finish to the bend in the road is now an accident waiting to happen.

We still have the usual cars from the business park leaving their vehicles where ever they choose but these would appear to have been joined by the cars previously left on the access road to Southview Gardens.

Previously the parking was largely confined to one side of the road but since the yellow lines have been painted cars are being left on both sides of the road leaving pavements unpassable to pedestrians and the road narrowed to such an extent that any large vehicles, emergency or deliveries would find it difficult to gain access

Refuse collections due tomorrow could be interesting!

Hi – Sorry to hear that. We introduced the changed after requests for local residents and consulted people before putting them in. Hopefully they will improve safety, but we’ll have to monitor.

  5. Turnfield Road Resident says:

I have to agree with the other residents who have posted on this page. Surely there is something that can be done? The workers who park on Turnfield are causing obstructions and you can no longer see past the corner if you are driving up the road due to parking on both sides of the road.
A few days ago there was nearly an accident outside my house due to the speeding of these cars coming round the bend.
There was also an issue at the junction with turnfield and cringle during the evening of the snowfall that caused a blockage on the road by the users and I believe there was one accident. Getting past the flats into the yellow lines area now is problematic due to the number of cars parking, and I’m very surprised there hasn’t yet been an issue with a large vehicle delivering supplies to the two building works on the road.

When the business park was built it was done with ample parking for its workers. Is there no communication or talks that can be done with them to try to resolve this issue. This all got worse when Sainsbury’s put their parking restrictions on and then the people who were parking there came to the residential streets. Yet there are always spaces around the former independent insurance building just off the roundabout.

We’re trying to find solutions. The lines we’ve put down so far – at the request of residents – allow emergency vehicles and bin wagons to get through and access the roads. We need to do more, but it’s not simple to say what. We have tried talking to the business park and the businesses. We’ve tried having a shuttle bus. We will probably try again, but we’ve not yet found a solution.
