With the local elections less than two months away, I’d like to thank everyone for the warm reception the Lib Dem team have received on the doorstep.
We campaign on a lot of issues and make sure we keep people informed of local news, but if I’m asking you to vote for me on Thursday 3rd May it seems fair that I tell you a bit about myself. So here are some things you may not know.
- I’ve been councillor for Cheadle and Gatley since 2009. I was first elected in a by-election after the death of Cllr Brian Millard, and then defended my seat just a few months later in 2010.
- I have two children who both went to Gatley Primary and Kingsway Secondary school.
- I am a Basketball England table official and mostly score games for Stockport Basketball Club. I also chair Cheadle Basketball Club – we have four teams playing in the Stockport community leagues. I’ve hardly ever played basketball myself though – I got involved when my son started playing.
- I work in Manchester and commute in by bicycle – I’ve become skilled at dodging potholes in Northenden and Withington!
- I am also a Peer Member with the Local Government Association. That means that, from time to time, I go to other councils around the country and help them improve. The furthest council I’ve visited is Cornwall.
- I’ve lived locally in Gatley since 2003. Before then I’ve lived in a number of different places including London, Leamington Spa, Watford and The Hague. Gatley’s the place I like the best, and where I’ve stayed the longest.
Hm… Well… Politics has certainly been very good for Iain, but, whether Iain has been any good for politics?…!?
Iain is a fantastic Councillor – absolutely dedicated to his role and done a lot for local communities. Whatever your political affiliation – you would have to accept he has always been very active and always tried his best for Gatley’s constituents.
? well he has certainly laid claim to a lot of other peoples good works over the last few years!
Well, Dr C, I’m not a a Lib Dem but what I see here is a councillor who clearly works his socks off for Cheadle & Gatley. Stark contrast with, say, the local Tories who you never hear of from one election to the next.
? am sure Iain will be pleased with your support, but, to the best of our knowledge – he be in no position to hand out ‘gongs’ to his loyal supporters!
I moved to cheadle in 2004.Both my self and wife are professionals and our children now are grown up professionals as well grown here in a multicultral cohesive community. We moved here from Harrogate. I have found liberal democrate tean here is very approachavble. Mark as a MP always resposnded to the local issues and even responded very well to any personal concerns or issues raised. Ian has the same approach. Excellent communication and try sort out the local problems. With people with other political alliances one gets no response for local issues or a very delayed answer.
I am sure Ian has all the good quality of a good public representative and a good leader.
On this website, I recently gave Iain some stick concerning a particularlarly vicious pothole near the lights at Longley Lane/Altrincham Road.
I threatened not to vote for him next time round if the pothole did not get repaired.
I went that way the other day – Sacre Bleu! Pothole gone!
Iain, even if you did not personally intervene in the repair, I can now state publicly, and writ large :
I WILL BE VOTING FOR IAIN IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS.
Cheadle and Gatley are very very lucky to have such a conscientious and approachable Councillor. If only I could say the same for our MP.
Thumbs up to that comment, Paula.
?FTR – both Mark Hunter AND Mary Robinson were of help to me.
In the case of the former it concerned a matter of public interest, in the case of the latter it was personal.
