Report back from Cheadle Area Committee, 17th April 2018

by Lib Dem team on 17 April, 2018

The last Cheadle Area Committee lasted from 6pm to 9pm – and thank you to the one member of the public who stayed to the end! It was also the final area committee that Cllr June Somekh will attend before standing down as councillor for Cheadle Hulme North

On the agenda:

  • Petition received from residents of Airedale Close, Gatley about the condition of their pavements
  • Petition received from Abney Cafe asking for an extension to provide documents needed to sort out the lease.
  • Application from Gatley Festival Committee for £1000 towards the insurance costs for Gatley Festival was approved.
  • Application from Friends of Wright’s Wood, Cheadle Hulme for £1000 to improve the woodland that’s fallen into disrepair was approved
  • Application from Cheadle and Gatley Griffins, our new ladies’ dodgeball team, for £1000 towards costs for room hire and equipment was approved.
  • Application from Edinburgh Tenants Association for £564 towards hanging baskets was postponed to the next meeting
  • Application from Oak Tree Court Tenants Association for £450 towards organising a cabaret show “Miss Daisy’s Burlesque Beauties” was approved.
  • Application from Queens Gardens Residents Association for £565.20 towards a trip to Manchester with river cruise and afternoon tea for residents was postponed to the next meeting.
  • Planning application DC/067774 – extension to the house at 23 Brown Lane, Heald Green was sent to the Planning & Highways Committee with a request for a site visit. It’s a complex application – the result of multiple applications which have not ended up being implemented in line with the plans.
  • Planning application DC/068080 – extension to house at 14 Lynton Vale Avenue, Gatley was approved, there being no valid planning grounds to reject.
  • Planning application DC/068154 – approval of reserved matters – appearance, landscaping and layout, following outline planning approval for a new single, detached house to the rear of 14 Lynton Vale Avenue, Gatley was sent to Planning & Highways. The original application was rejected by the council but overruled by the Planning Inspector. That means that the new house can be built – and this was just about the details. We were concerned about possible overlooking and loss of privacy but didn’t have the diagrams needed to confirm whether it was an issue.
  • Vehicle access to the bridleway at Old Wool Lane/Demmings Road (put on the agenda at the request of Cllr Pantall). Proposals for droppable bollards with local residents having keys will be considered by the council.
  • Proposal for built-out to stop cars going the wrong way along Gatley Green – request for £750 for feasbility study was approved.
  • Proposal for double yellow lines at the junction of Milton Crescent and Gatley Road, Cheadle was approved.
  • Consideration of objections to plans for double yellow lines on St Ives Avenue/St Davids Road, Cheadle. The plans were approved, with evidence provided that a bin lorry or ambulance could not get into the road with cars parked along the sides.
  • Event applications for permission to use Gatley Recreation Ground and William Scholes Fields for the various Gatley Festival events was approved.
  • Event application for permission to use Outwood Road Recreation Ground for the Heald Green festival was approved.
  • Councillors asked officers to look at the issue of damage to grass verges and come back with options to help.

What about residents safety ie more policing

  2. Alex says:

How has the council got funding to grant £5k in one one night on sports equipment and social evens yet residents like me have been requesting for trees and hedges to be cut back for over 4 years , more policing and roads and pavements to be improved only to be told it’s not a priority . This is unfair and not right .
