New Tatton delay – this is why we won’t let up

by Lib Dem team on 12 May, 2018

The Lib Dem team have welcomed the progress made towards developing the former Tatton cinema, but as others rush to try and grab the credit for sorting it all out, we’re saying the job’s not done until the cinema site is fully developed as a new Co-op convenience store and apartments.

We were told that construction work was meant to start last month. It didn’t. It now seems that a new planning application has been submitted to change the timing of when different things can happen on site.

The planning application (69271) reads “Variation of pre-commencement conditions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26, 28 and 33 of DC/058809 to allow for demolition and groundworks to commence prior to the discharge of the conditions that do not relate to this aspect of the works. Conditions to be re-worded as “Excluding demolition no above ground floor construction works shall take place until…”

You can see the planning application here.

“Graham, Keith and I are working to ensure the Tatton site is properly developed, and the job’s not done until it is. This new planning application, which could see construction delayed by several more months, shows that there’s still work to do.” said Iain.

Sounds like a foul-up in the original application. Seems something of a no-brainer that any required demolition takes place before there can be rebuilding. Such a shame that we see yet another delay in this saga.

Presumably the Area Committee members will be smoothing the passage of this application as far as you are able.

    Surprise! Surprise!

    Oh what a shocker!

I thought the frontage was being largely retained and refurbished. What demolition are they talking about?

  5. GB says:

Yes, let’s hope the frontage is saved

I have said this before but hope that the whole lot could be demolished. There is no historical interest or value to he cinema and surrounds

    • Tony Kaye says:

      I agree with you Ruth!
      Demolish the lot.

    • DR C says:

      Agreed.
The building has ALWAYS been out of keeping with the place.
Pull it down and put up some much needed affordable housing (flats).
Time to give up this ghost! ?

Hi Iain, firstly congratulations on your win a couple of weeks ago
Just to give me some clarity on this, why will it delay things by several months, what will take so long, is it the council, the developer or something else, like the Manchester weather as in the bypass
It appears that whenever any project involving the public sector gets delayed it is always in terms of months and even years

Work is now underway. I must have missed this question back in May, apologies! I think it was an issue with needing an amendment to the planning application. The application was submitted by Dickens Property Group, who had failed to develop the site over 13 years so perhaps a little too soon to blame the public sector given the progress now being made.
