Manchester Airport respond on complaints

by Lib Dem team on 12 June, 2018

We have received a number of complaints from residents about different aspects of Manchester Airport’s operations: noise from takeoff, customer service for passengers and the soon-to-be-introduced drop-off charges, among others.

Here’s the response we’ve had from Jonathan Challis at the airport. We think this approach is sensible: report problems to the airport, then contact us as local councillors if you’re unhappy with the response, and we can chase it up.

We have had a long period of Easterly/Northeasterly winds & as aircraft, to make a safe landing/takeoff, have to land/takeoff in to the wind they have been departing towards Stockport.

Any complaints can be directed to our web page: http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/webtrak

We were finally able to switch back Westerly yesterday (Sunday) but the forecast suggests a short period of easterlies tomorrow (Tuesday)

Hope that helps

Best wishes

    In other words ‘do one!’.

    • Ian says:

What are you expecting him to say ? ..perhaps we can land and take off into the wrong wind direction and risk the planes safety ? …there are lots of things you can control but mother nature is not one of them.

  2. John H says:

So poor customer service and the ripoff drop off charge are not worthy of comment.

Hope we didn’t waste to much of your time Mr Challis.

  3. Norman Cartledge says:

Well said John H. The passenger is not their prime consideration , profit and self enrichment are. They stretch out a hand of friendship whilst pick pocketing you with the other.Passengers are mere pawns in their “ boards” master games and always first casualties .

    • Chris says:

I’ve never noticed them extend the hand of friendship! Their service is more like a mugging than a pickpocketing… And at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

  4. Alan says:

They have no answer to the drop off charges other than “it’s a fair cop, we’re ripping you off”. The airport is becoming too big without consequent efficiency- how many places can you fly to direct? Not many unless you want to suffer the indignity of Ryanair and easyJet

  5. Barbara says:

I feel the flight path has definitely shifted more over Cheadle than it used to be. I wonder why??

    • Steve W says:

Manchester airport now has 2 runways running parallel to each other and set at a distance apart. Depending on which runway is used for take-off will dictate the exit flight path. One of them obviously goes straight over Cheadle.
The recent ‘long period’ of taking off in the Stockport direction has probably caused you to make this observation now.

  6. Julie Kingdon says:

At Nice Airport they have a “Kiss & Fly” facility whereby you drive into the carpark, collect a ticket, drop off your passengers, & as long as you exit the carpark within 10 minutes, there is no charge. Easy, straightforward, brilliant.
