Wilmslow Road resurfacing from 25th June

by Lib Dem team on 13 June, 2018

Another road being resurfaced as part of the Lib Dem £100m investment: Wilmslow Road, between Abney Place and Broadway. Needless to say, there is no way to do this without disruption, so the work is being carried out overnight. The work is planned to start on 25th June 2018 and take up to a week to complete.

Here’s what the Council have told us:

Stockport Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on a section of Wilmslow Road, Cheadle (Abney Place to Broadway) these works will be carried out by our Alliance partner, Tarmac Ltd.

This work is anticipated to commence on the 25th June 2018 for up to a week, weather permitting, the work will be carried out overnight between 7.00PM to 5:00AM, subject to the necessary permissions being obtained via TFGM and the Streetworks team.

During the times stated above it will be necessary to utilise temporary multi-way traffic signals on Wilmslow Road between Abney Place and Broadway. These measures are in place to minimise disruption to residents and businesses and to allow safe working operations to take place.

Access to properties and businesses in the working area will be maintained where possible however it may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.

Properties directly affected by this work will receive a letter explaining the scope of the work and timescales involved in due course

Information boards will also be erected on site advising road users of the upcoming planned work.

We have contacted TFGM (buses) and they will make the necessary arrangements to bus services that will be affected during working times. Although some local disruption is inevitable this will be kept to a minimum by our staff on site.

You mean the Stockport council investment!

Why is perfectly good stretch of road being replaced when we have bad stretches of pot holed roads in dire need of attention?

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Roy – the pot-holed roads need to be done as well, and are being done as well, but I hope you’d agree that it’s good to keep main roads in good condition and stop them becoming potholed roads. I don’t want Stockport’s main roads to have to look like Manchester’s before they’re repaired!

I think Manchester Road Cheadle was repaired not long ago but when I went down last week there are signs of deterioration. Also how can we tell Sainsburys and J. Lewis to look at the entrance roads to their stores as there are some holes appearing.

  4. David Maycock says:

when is all this road repairs, maintenance and the building of the A555 ( this road is a disgrace the Roman’s could have built one quicker ) going to finish its a nightmare all around the area as far as Woodford. And who ever sanctioned a car wash across the road from an entrance to a Mosque AT A SET OF LIGHTS Friday is a complete nightmare trying to pick my grandaughter up what with cars parked all over the place on pavements and coming out of car wash as well as queueing to go They should be sacked

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi David – the last we were told by the council is that the road is due to be completed this Autumn (which would be year later than planned). We’ll report back when we get any further updates.

I don’t know the background to the car wash on Wilmslow Road, I’m afraid.

What is obvious is that road surface deterioration is responding more often due accelerating traffic density. Yet the surfacing is using the same materials as from decades ago. Surely new tougher technology should be used!
