The crime rate is absolutely shocking in gatley and this report every week just omits all the crimes taking place, you have a police telling shops not to report theft and deal with it themselves, kids running riot attacking other kids and stealing from shops, shoplifters threatening staff and using their babies in prams to carry out offences when you do try and log a crime I called 999 yesterday was put on hold for ten minutes, if I log a shoplifter we get put through to a call centre and charged for the time I’m on hold for over twenty minutes most of the time. More often than not the kids robbing and attacking other kids try and steal from shops first so if you respond straight away you may prevent a lot of the issues happening. Police presence is non existent in gatley at this point, and if a minor is stupid enough to commit a crime they should be punished as an adult not taken home to their mum and dad

Whilst we know police cuts have impacted daily policing, the obvious is often just ignored. Turning left at the Farmers Arms in Cheadle Heath, driver are now faced by 2-3 cars owned by the Asian ship holders who have decided double yellows aren’t for them and simply park in an obstructing position. The police drive past this every day and do nothing. Having worked all my life I’m now sick of the daily evidence of people simply not doing their job.

Stuart’s shoplifters and Alan’s parking problems in the past would have be sorted by the resident beat officer.
When it comes to priorities and resources the public want local service. Get back to basics is my message to the powers that be.

When I was a kid we were in the area of the Platt lane police station and the station Seargent with his big stick. You only had to make acquaintances with that stick once to know not to try any tricks ever again. Things have changed I know …but for the better??

    • John H says:

I am not an advocate of corporal punishment, but there was not much trouble in the Isle of Man when they had the birch.
To maintain order we need an effective deterrent.

      • Ian says:

John this was not Corporal Punishment it was the way the POLICE could and did let potential troublemakers know they were in charge, we had the utmost respect for the Police then because we knew what to expect if we misbehaved..the trouble is today there is little or no respect for anything including the police.

  5. The government seem to be taking no notice of this ever increasing concern that the thin edge of the crime wedge is getting thicker every week. Under 5% of burglaries solved.! 355 reported in Derbyshire last year-not one solved? Are the police using cut backs as an excuse? This cannot continue.

  6. Did you read the article on SK8 concerning travellers taking over a brewery? What did the police do?

  7. David Maycock says:

look at the parking on Foxland now, that taxi driver i don’t think he’s passed his test ? you can not see anything now coming out of Appleby and its every day.

  8. Alan says:

Illegal right turns out of Massie St- the list is endless

  9. JB says:

Its about time an ANPR camera was established at the exit from Massie St. Last week, while stationary eastbound traffic filled the High St. a car attempting to turn right from Massie St. blocked both the exit from Massie St and the westbound traffic on High St. for several minutes in spite of a following driver pointing out the offence. This must be stopped.

Active policing needs active police presence as all above have noted. But it also needs increasing office back-up in this technical tied world so that Police Officers can spend more time outside rather than on computer button pressing. Several decades have seen slashed budgets, reduced PO’s and diminishing office staff. Government should be for society – not for profit.

Red Ford Transit registration LC55YRW is driving around Cheadle this vehicle is not INSURED no MOT and no TAX, I have just reported it to the Police via 101 , it was being driven suspiciously slowly by 2 men obviously looking for easy pickings, this is the 2nd time in a month that I personally have spotted a Uninsured vehicle the first one being driven by a Theif, my question is why are these uninsured vehicles not stopped and taken off the road by the Police,
