Some of the roads issues the Lib Dem team are working on

by Lib Dem team on 26 June, 2018

The Lib Dem team work on a lot of issues – large and small. Here’s a round-up that covers a good number of the highways issues we’re currently working on.

– SEMMMS refresh
– Roscoe’s roundabout – Manchester Road/Stockport Road Improvement Scheme – out to public consultation
– Turnfield House , Turnfield Road off School’s Hill – looking at how to ensure access for bin lorries, emergency vehicles etc.
– Gatley Green – mostly there just an issues of formatting the triangular area used for parking at the moment near Tesco.
– School’s Hill/ Daylesford Crescent double yellow lines already in place, just needs enforcement to encourage no parking
– Frances Street, Cheadle site visits to establish a solution to speeding issue – ongoing
– Lum Head & Cheadle Primary parking problems
– Massie Street right turn, a police issue, they do enforce from time to time, the have used a camera car.
– Peckforton parking issue – site visits planned to establish options
– Borrowdale sunken road issue, on going since last December, now coming to the top of the list for action
– Massie Street/Brookfield corner subsidence – now coming to the top of the list of action
– Silverdale Road, Cars parked on council’s grass verge are an obstruction to visibility for road user, will visit site
– Silverdale Road overgrown hedges causing an obstruction to visibility – checking to see if the maintenance of the verges was passed over to a residents groups some years ago.
– Ashfield Road near Cheadle Library, checking ownership of the road, assumed to be unadopted
– Path from Ashfield Road past Cheadle Library as above but in any case maintence of fencing is for the land owner not the path owner.
– Cringle Drive – stump removal
– Cringle Drive – new dropped Kerb
– Yellow lines to help drivers exiting from Church Court, Hall Street

I am interested in the Ashfield Road issue as the council has refused to undertake any repairs to verges that are now dangerous to school children and wheelchair users as they state this is unadopted land. I have looked at the ownership maps held by the council and they don’t own the land from below the library. This means in the past they have grabbed land for access to the library and garages possibly unlawfully. They have also developed approx 30 parking spaces on the same unowned land, and the parking wardens have issued penalties for overstay parking on land they do not own, are these legal?
And they refuse to make some minor repairs, shame, do Stockport set out to get everything wrong? That’s what it seams

  2. Turnfield Road says:

Immediate action needs to be taken regarding inconsiderate drivers essentially blocking the portion of Turnfield Road close to the junction with Schools Hill. The pavement adjacent to Turnfield House is consistently unusable as drivers are parking over the kerb.Buggy and wheelchair users stand no chance of safely using this area.Only yesterday I had to wait for approx 8 minutes at the junction for a delivery vehicle exiting Turnfield Road to attempt to squeeze between the illegally parked vehicles with barely an inch to spare either side.Emergency vehicles stand little or no chance.

  3. Alan says:

Police have used a camera for Massie St right turners? I find that very hard to believe frankly. Why don’t we just make it entry from the high st. only? This would also’provide another 6 on street parking bays

  4. Alf says:

    Good news on Turnfield Rd.

What we don’t won’t it for enforcement to result in parking further down the road.

I suggest, as before, the road should be access only as a minimum. I’m not sure we want a residents’ only order.

Could Turnfield House management also be prevailed on to cut back their vegetation which also narrows the footpath.

Roscoe’s roundabout works perfectly fine now – spend the money sorting out the one at the top of Schools Hill. Or, is that also caused by continued inaction at Gatley lights?

Has the blind spot / overgrown hedge on the corner of Dalesford Road / Schools Hill been dropped from the agenda ?

  6. John H says:

Parking close to junctions is practiced not only on Turnfield Road but The Downs and Dalesford Road. Do we have to wait until there is a serious accident or emergency services unable to gain access.
The local authority stated it is a police matter if the parking causes danger and refused any action.

    • Alan says:

All this is down to the school who are completely unpoliced- even the head bows to the Asians who complain about stuff in school. A really high proportion of kids walk to and from Kingsway; I’ll wager virtually no kids walk to Ladybarn. It’s been causing problems for years and either it should be made to comply to various requirements – a school bus would be a start – or it should be shut down.

      • Karen says:

Having lived on Cringle Drive in excess of 30 years Lady Barn has always caused localised congestion and no doubt will continue to do so however it is for only a short period each day.The cars on Turnfield Road however are double parked all day long- same cars every day so clearly unconnected to the school drop off/pick up or the park. The situation has worsened considerably since the introduction of the double yellow lines at various locations around the area and Sainsburys imposing a 4 hr limit on their car park which has seemingly moved the all day parkers to the surrounding roads.

      • john says:

A start would be, the yellow lines being repainted a review of the times of parking restrictions a a warden with the guts to issue tickets.

Ian for over 3 years (possibly more) you have been telling me extra parking would be looked at for Bruntwood Park. To date there are no extra spaces and to be honest i feel we have been fobbed off. I have on numerous occasions brought to your attention the double parking of vehicles on the surrounding roads meaning that emergency vehicles would not be able to access should there be an emergency plus the fact that you have to walk in the middle of the road as you can’t walk on the pavements as the cars park on the pavements. It’s particularly dangerous for children in buggies/wheelchairs etc. You keep improving facilities in the park, bringing in more people, but don’t find the money to provide enough parking, therefore making the surrounding roads more dangerous. The people I talk to who have difficutly parking think it’s awful too.

  8. Ja net holmes says:

I too am interested in the Ashfield Road situation. In the past I have complained about fly tipping there..and taken time to follow up and have SMBC deal with it. A while back you asked for suggestions regarding possible parking spaces. I put forward this neglected area and the response was that it was likely unadapted..I’d be interested to know what has happened in the interim, or is this more confirmation that we are not heard?

  9. Janet Holmes says:

    Sorry obviously error …unadopted!

  10. Helena says:

The situation on Turnfield Road close to Schools Hill is dreadful. The same cars each day block the pavements which in the long term will cause damage to the paving slabs.I do not believe these are users of Bruntwood but are day parkers from businesses on Cheadle Royal park.Action needs to be taken as soon as possible but merely extending the double yellows will just move the problem further up the road.Could the cars be ticketed for causing an obstruction?

  11. Dave says:

Old Hall Road just after the medical centre. It’s like crossing the grand canyon. I noticed the pavements were repaired nearby and the main road, bu this definitely needs some attention.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Very true Dave – we have already asked for Old Hall Road and Cambridge Road to be moved up the list of roads to be resurfaced. We’ll see if the council listens!

  12. JB says:

Cars are still speeding along Styal Road in spite of the new signs. Speed indicators, cameras or ANPR cameras are required. Also, a double white line down the centre of the road is needed. Just today a car already indicating a right turn into one of the Groves, was overtaken at speed in the face of oncoming traffic. Overtaking on this road with its many junctions is obviously contrary to the Highway Code anyway.
