Pavement repairs on Styal Road

by Lib Dem team on 3 August, 2018

In the latest in the roads and pavements being repaired across Cheadle & Gatley, as part of the £100m Lib Dem scheme, we’ve been notified of pavement repairs coming up on Styal Road:

Highway Investment Programme – Footway Patching on Styal Road – Stonepail to Hollyhedge and Gatley Brook to Pymgate

Stockport Council will be undertaking footway patching works on Styal Road from Stonepail to Hollyhedge and Gatley Brook to Pymgate, in preparation for a preventative treatment at a later date. These works will be carried out by Totally Local Company. Work is scheduled to commence on Thursday 9th August taking around 14 working days to complete, weather permitting, the work will be carried out between 09:30 and 15:30 weekdays only.

Whilst the works are ongoing, it will be necessary to restrict traffic movements along the site utilising two-way lights. These measures are in place to minimise disruption to residents and businesses and to allow safe working operations to take place.

Although some local disruption is inevitable this will be kept to a minimum by our staff on site. Access to properties and businesses in the working area will be maintained where possible, however, it may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses. Properties directly affected by this work will receive a letter explaining the scope of the work and timescales involved in due course.

Looking at the markings laid out already – it must of been done by someone with restricted vision – as many of the uneven areas will not be attended to.

It is a waste of money to patch repair – complete the job correctly and save money long term

    • Iain Roberts says:

That’s the plan Phil – this patching is the first part of a two-part process where the pavements will be fully repaired.

        Evening Iain

I have just seen the shocking work that has commenced on Styal road – kerb stones replaced with others that don’t align and patching not sealed correctly. The highways team should inspect and compare against the specification and get the contractor to complete works correctly first time or more money is wasted.

Where have the Lib Dem’s got this £100m from?

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Barbara – we put together the scheme a few years ago. Through a combination of saving money on lower insurance claims and not having to do so many reactive repairs, we were able to find a way to achieve it. At the time it was by far the biggest scheme in the country – other councils have started to copy us.

The general idea is that, instead of carrying on patching roads and pavements as they get worse and worse, we can save money in the long run by properly repairing them.

What is the second part of the repair of the pavements please?
