Action on litter and fly-tipping

by Lib Dem team on 7 August, 2018

We’ve had an issue with litter and fly-tipping at the clothing recycling bank opposite Gatley Green. The Council have now promised to clean it regularly and monitor. It may need to be removed if there’s no improvement.

The litter bin outside Cheadle library has been overfilled and had fly-tipping left around it. The Council will now empty the bin more often, and is looking at a larger bin to replace it.

Community Payback will be in Cheadle around 20th August, cutting back the vegetation at the top of Ashfield Road.

Finally, a massive thank you to a volunteer who has been working to clear up around Massie Street car park, gardening, weeding and litter-picking. The Council has been supportive, but it’s the volunteer who deserves the credit and is doing the work. We are hoping local businesses will now start doing more to do their bit and clear up the area too.

The remaining recycling bins in the Gatley Church Road car park are of no interest to some of us (such items going to other charities and their shops), take up a valuable parking space and encourage irresponsible dumpling.
    Time they were taken away.

  2. Rich says:

Was at Abney yesterday and the lower car park was covered in rubbish left by some irresponsible ‘campers’. Used nappies, food wrappers, glass bottles. Was pretty disgusting and, with a bin, 20 yards away, very annoying

    Hi Iain
I know the person who is improving the environment in and around Massey Street car park he Is a fantastic public spirited person who sets a fine example to us all.
Can you tell me how the Council are supporting him, have they provided a pass for the tip for instance, please list what they have done to help and encourage his efforts.
    I await your response

  4. I can answer in part Roy. Paul Clarke, Public Realm Inspector for SMBC was eager to meet with me to discuss going forward with volunteer work. There has been a lot of obstacles previously, and Paul has helped us here, and the un named person has been able to work with less hinderance. There will be more clearance soon!

  5. Roy says:

    Hi Phillip
So the Councils Support is Less Inderence from the Council ‘great support’.
Please tell me I wrong and there is real support

  6. Iain Roberts says:

Roy – as Phillip says, the council officer (Paul) has been great at offering support and helping to make this happen.

The proof is in the pudding: it’s happening and the village is looking better as a result.

  7. Roy says:

    Iain
Please answer my question what support is being given please list it.
Or is the support too embarrassing to list?

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Roy – as I mentioned, this is a project the Civic Society have been working on. I’ve not been the person having those conversations, and I’m not going to pretend to know all the details.
