A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road to open in early October

by Lib Dem team on 11 September, 2018

The A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road (A6MARR) is due to open in early October 2018, about a year after the original date.

The road, which was secured by Mark Hunter when he was Lib Dem MP for Cheadle, will take traffic off local roads around Gatley, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme and Heald Green as well as spurring economic growth and jobs and our area.

The Council has more information on the opening here.

I seem to remember one report stating that traffic on the A34 / Gatley lights would actually increase as a result of the new road opening. Confirm / deny please!

Great news about the opening and the advances to communication and the hope that this will relieve local traffic but the big buy in for this area would be the completion of this relief road to connect from Poynton to the M60 around Bredbury. This would bring a solution for the Stockport M60 hold ups, relief to the m60,M56 junction better national links. This has been talked about for years however is this still a probability?

I agree with Alan, all the reports state that there will be more traffic on the A34. So is this Mark Hunter legacy

I agree that to gain most benefit from this road it should be completed to the M60 at Bredbury as originally planned.

Hi all – yes, the new road is one of many things that is likely to increase traffic on the A34 – hence the improvements and the need for more work at the Kingsway junction.

It should, however, reduce traffic through our villages.

Traffic on the A34 is increasing whatever we do – we need a fix for the Kingsway junction.
