10 Eden Place to be converted to apartments

by Lib Dem team on 12 November, 2018

A planning application has been submitted for changes to 10 Eden Place, Cheadle as part of a conversion to a residential block with 27 apartments.

Under Government planning rules, no permission is needed for a conversion from office to residential. The office has been the home of the Finance team for the group that runs the Alexandra Hospital.

The planning application – 71237 – is for :

Elevational alterations to building, including installation of new windows, rooflights, doorways, juliet style balconies, dormer windows, externally mounted building lighting, new entrance door and canopy, together with removal of external staircase, in conjunction with residential use.

If it’s not affordable housing, we should refuse planning, although I suspect that’s not possible.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Alan – they don’t need planning permission to covert the buiding from offices to apartments, so the council couldn’t refuse planning permission on that basis, I’m afraid.

  2. Jennifer says:

What about parking for these flats, a potential of 27 more cars to be accommodated?

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Jennifer – the law doesn’t allow the council to reject a planning application on that basis. 10 Eden Place does have parking, but you’re right that it might not be enough. The council can’t say “no” because of that though.

  3. John H says:

The vast majority of households have more than one vehicle Jennifer’s estimate of 27 could be doubled. I can see the developers and or residents trying to get a deal with the council for parking on Eden place car park. Imagine the effect!

27 apartments could be ‘micro’ ones for first time buyers, young professionals – no cars….good for Cheadle if they shop in the village. (There’s a new block of 184 flats in Cheadle Hulme with no parking!)

  5. julie b says:

the fact that Cheadle Hulme has a railway station helps that the flats there don’t have parking. No such luck ( yet??) in Cheadle so it does create a problem.

  6. Iain Roberts says:

Parking is a problem, but it isn’t a problem the council has any legal powers to act on, so we’ll have to deal with any issues as best we can.

  7. Les Leckie says:

As they won’t have driveways they will be eligible to apply for a resident parking scheme.

  8. Adrienne says:

According to the developers, parking should not be a problem as there is a space for every flat plus some visitor parking spaces. In other blocks they have done , not every flat has required a space! .
