How to report a traffic offence to GMP – online

by Lib Dem team on 7 February, 2019

You can now report traffic accidents and suspected traffic offences to the Police online:

Report them here.

“This is useful for the Police to gather information, and much less hassle than calling 101 and being kept on hold for 45 minutes,” said Cllr Graham Greenhalgh. “We’ve all seen dodgy driving and illegal maneuvers, and this helps the Police identify problem locations and bad drivers.”

Presumably there’s no point in reporting the constant stream of people who turn right illegally from Massie Street as they’ll just deny it?

With many vehicles having dash cams and an even higher percentage of pedestrians carrying mobile phones, it is a simple matter for many people, young or old, to take a short series of shots that clearly indicate the illegal manoeuvre and can be transferred electronically to the police. Spare copies can also be sent to newspapers or other interested parties. This is not the same as the old-fashioned citizens arrest but is probably more effective.

Hi Alan – I don’t think reporting is sufficient for a prosecution: the evidence wouldn’t be strong enough. But it allows the Police to identify both problem junctions and problem drivers. Sometimes a warning can be effective!

This sounds good. I’m going start noting all the cars breaking the law by ignoring the “Access Only” and the “20MPH” limit coming onto the South Park Estate from Kingsway, M60 and the Barnes Development (“oh, that will won’t happen”). Do you think it will get any more attention than previous complaints to the Council and Mark Hunter when he was MP? No. Neither do I, particularly as the Police use it regularly as well………

  3. Jennifer says:

What about all the lorries and cars which turn right out of Massie Street on to the High Street in Cheadle ? Often the lorries can not manage the manoeuvre in ‘one go’ and this causes even more disruption.

I recognise that the Police Forces have insufficient officers due to the countrywide underfunding in the recent decade & that is a major part of the reason for the general ignoring of speed limits. But there are so many usual lawbreakers who do it believing they can get away with it something needs to be activated. 20mph is clearly OK to many on Broadway, St Annes Rd., Wilmslow Rd. etc, etc, etc… Double Yellow parking is not worth a mention!

I can’t seem to get to or from work every day without being stuck behind some idiot texting on a phone but let’s be honest with ourselves here, the police are SO understaffed that you’re lucky if they turn up when someone invade your home and ransacks it! Is cutting through the South Park Estate or turning right at Massey Street, (as annoying/dangerous as it is) really going to be something the police will prioritise? These things are only ever (unfortunately) looked at when there’s a fatality. We need more police, end of.

Well, I was going to mention that cars are continually turning right from Massie St but ‘Alan’ beat me to it. However it happened in front of me yet again just today and because I was looking to see who the driver was she gave me the V sign!!! I didn’t do anything, just watched.

Parking on Milton Crescent is driving me mad. When we came to live here it was only the residents that parked. I just know there will be a head on crash on the blind bend as drivers are taking the bend too fast.

I’m witnessing bad driving habits every day, and I still see drivers with mobiles in their hands.
