by Lib Dem team on 27 February, 2019

The next Cheadle Area Committee is at Trinity Church, Massie Street, Cheadle at 6pm on Tuesday 5 March 2019. As ever, all are welcome and the meeting will also be webcast on the Stockport Council website.

Here’s what’s coming up next week:

  • Request for £1000 funding towards improvements to the outdoor play area at First Steps Orrishmere Pre-school.
  • Request for £602 funding towards setting up a cafe at St Cuthbert’s Church, Cheadle
  • Request for £1,000 funding towards projects to reduce social isolation from Heald Green Friday Hub
  • Request for £2,000 funding towards a defibrillator from Christ Church Catholic Church in Heald Green.
  • Request for £800 funding towards a defibrillator from Heald Green Methodist Pre-school, Brown Lane.
  • Planning application DC/071580 to covert a former shop in Foxland Road, Gatley into a tuition/education centre (NOT a mosque or prayer centre, as has been incorrectly rumoured on Facebook).
  • Planning application DC/071697 to provide a shelter for spectators at Cheadle Heath Sports Club, Norbreck Avenue, Cheadle.
  • Planning application DC/071697 for a home extension at 120 Lavington Avenue, Cheadle
  • Consultation on the way that money from planning applications goes towards funding new play equipment in parks and playgrounds.
  • Progress report on the improvement works at Abney Hall Park and Roscoe’s roundabout.
  • Report on plan for CCTV installation on Finney Lane, Heald Green
  • Proposal for centre-line on a sharp bend in Tarvin Road.
  • Proposal to remove double yellow lines from part of Newlands Road, Cheadle and replace with single yellow lines (limited waiting). This is by the junction with Manchester Road.
  • Proposal to put a bench on Ladybridge Road, Cheadle Hulme – opposite the junction with Twining Brook Road
  • Consider a request from an individual to sell flowers inside Mill Lane Cemetery.

All the reports, plus the agenda for the meeting are here.

  1. Peter Rowley says:

    Good morning Iain.
Ref Newlands Road double yellow line removal.
The owners of the used car business currently park their cars on existing double yellow lines, park cars fully on the pavement (in front of and to the side of Newlands House) and several cars taking up a large proportion of the pavement and on occasions actually on the Green. They block easy access for pedestrians along the pavement and cause congestion at the top of Newlands Road where it meets Newlands Road. I’m afraid that Parking Wardens do not deal with this ongoing problem. The car business will ignor the time limit restrictions and use the area as an extension of their forecourt as they do at present. Ollowing parking will not benefit any of the many other small businesses within the immediate area.

Good to see more defibrillators in the community. The request for £2000 towards a unit seems excessive. The Defib Shop Excalibur House 630 Liverpool Road Irlam Manchester M44 5AD (which I have no connection) Has 19 different units priced at under £1000. Training for operators can be found locally for around £400 for a group of 12 people.
A need to do some homework for the most competitive prices.

DC/07 1580. Tuition/Education?. Two of the most dangerous words in any language. There are schools, colleges, universities, evening classes all available and regulated, so why open another one?

    • Alan says:

Because it’s the thinend of the wedge Alice. Who’s going to check it’s nit operating as a mosque after this gets clearance

      • David Hulme says:

What if it is a mosque? What is the problem? And don’t say it’s because it’s in an inappropriate location. I find this attitude depressing and disappointing.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Alice – I’d say that education is quite a good thing! New schools and educational establishments open all the time, and new tutors offer education and training all the time. I really can’t think of any time when that hasn’t been the case.

If you’re concerned about the centre, I’d suggest you do what I’ve done several times and take a look. The people who run it are always very friendly and very happy to show visitors around.

  4. Judith says:

The existing ‘education centre’ is used for prayers. If anyone passes on a Friday Lunch time you will see this.
It makes it impossible to park anywhere along Foxland Road and the surrounding Roads.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Judith – that’s correct, and they have always said that there are prayers there, since the centre opened in 2009. They have never suggested otherwise.

  5. Alan says:

In other words Alice your concerns will be ignored and this will be waved through
