Gatley Carrs – What more must we do?

by Lib Dem Team on 2 March, 2019

Gatley Carrs is an oasis of nature in the heart of Gatley village. Nineteen acres of woods, meadows and scrub plus 4 acres of ponds and swamp land. The Gatley Carrs Conservation Group (GCCG) lovingly preserve and care for this local asset. As a result the Nature Reserve regularly wins the prestigious Green Flag award, the only winner in all of Stockport.

For some years the GCCG have been looking to secure the future for the Carrs by applying for Fields in Trust status, but frustratingly without success.

Cllr. Graham Greenhalgh said ‘This truly natural environment is a community amenity worth protecting. I was proud to submit a petition on behalf of the GCCG demanding to know the latest news on the application for Fields in Trust status’. Unfortunately, this petition has also received no response.

Graham stated ‘I will not allow this to be ignored, I will be making fresh approaches to council for an answer to our demands’.
