Cambridge Road resurfacing starts 19th Nov

by Lib Dem team on 8 November, 2019

As part of the Lib Dem £100m investment to repair roads and pavements across Stockport, Cambridge Road in Gatley will be resurfaced, starting on Tuesday 19 November 2019.

“We are very glad that Cambridge Road is being resurfaced,” said Cllr Keith Holloway. “It’s in poor condition and desperately needs resurfacing”.

The Council says:

As part of the programme, Stockport Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on Cambridge Road, Gatley from the junction of Gatley Road to Old Hall Drive.

The work will be carried out by our Alliance Partner Tarmac Ltd. and is scheduled to commence on the 19th November 2019 taking up to two weeks to complete, weather permitting. Work will be carried out between 9.00AM and 16.00PM, subject to the necessary permissions being obtained via TfGM and the Council’s Streetworks team.

Unfortunately, to carry out this work it will be necessary to manage traffic movements on Cambridge Road by utilising a Prohibition of Driving Order [Road Closure]. This is required to minimise disruption and to allow safe working operations to take place. Access into Cambridge Road will be managed from 6am each working day to prevent vehicles parking at the railway station.   Access to properties and businesses in the working area will be maintained where possible however it may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.

Properties directly affected by this work will receive a letter explaining the scope of the work and timescales involved in due course, a copy of the residents letter is attached to this email.   Information boards will also be erected on site and at other key points in the surrounding area advising road users of the planned work.

Is there any chance that some of this (our) money could be spent on the local flooding that keeps happening around the Cheadle area , namely Broadway and the Wilmslow rd junction ,
Although I understand that the roads and pavements need money spending on them, I think that being out at all hours of the day and night trying to stop everything we have worked for being whashed away time and time again might just be a little bit more urgent .
This has been happening now for over ten years ??

      Hi Gerard,

Could you drop me an email with more information on recent problems please. I was involved in a lot of work between the council, UU and local residents to resolve this issue 2-3 years ago and no-one has told me that there’s been flooding at that location this year.

If you can let me know what’s happened, we’ll get things moving.

I assume parking will be suspended on Old Hall Road to give the extra traffic a chance to move?
