The British Film Archive has thousands of historical films from across the country, including this one which has footage of Cheadle as it was in 1961. The Cheadle section starts around 4m40s in.

Loved the film, thanks for sharing that.
I started at Moseley Hall Grammar School ( now the Village hotel) in 1961 and that is exactly how I remember Cheadle, and it really hasn’t changed that much apart from the shop names.
And the lack of traffic.
And how nice to see Piccadilly gardens as they were and still should be, compared to the mess they are today.
Be good to get someone to digitise and edit that film and add some sound effects and maybe some commentary from people who were around at that time and add some music.
If the University aren’t doing it then maybe I could find someone inerested in taking on that challenge from my contacts in film production.
Anyway thanks again.
Peter

The Local Heritage Library gave me permission to use them for my village history booklet for the Gatley Village Partnership – “Gatley Then & Now”. At just £10, it’s surely the ideal last minute Xmas stocking filler. And every penny goes to the Partnership to help them grow our community. Copies available by emailing the GVP at gatleyvp@gmai.com
