Gatley getting a Post Office back

by Lib Dem team on 24 December, 2019

Good news – Gatley is getting a Post Office again.

The new sub post office will open in the convenience store on Foxland Road early in 2020.

“It’s very important for Gatley to have a Post Office, so it’s great news that someone has been found to take it on. We look forward to it opening.” said Iain.

Fantastic for me as around the corner – I wonder if they will have a posting box.

That is very very good news. No car and working full time not easy getting to Cheadle all the time.

Not much use to most of the people of Gatley. Quicker to go to Cheadle. Why could it not be in the new Co-op. A much better option for both the Co-op and local residents.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Linda – because the Co-op choose not to have sub-post offices in their stores.

      • John Hartley says:

Iain – that’s simply not accurate. The Co-op runs many post offices, right across the country. Even a quick Google shows that the Mid-Counties Co-op runs 74. And, closer to home, there’s a post office in the Prestbury Co-op. Lots more Google hits, of course, and I’ve just picked these two examples.

Now it may be that they’ve chosen not to want one in their Gatley shop and that’s obviously a business matter for them. Personally, I think that decision is a mistake – far better to have a post office at the centre of the community than not. And surely the whole ethos of the Co-op is serving its communities.

    What use is that?!?!

  5. Parking not good, with Dentist and Muslim Centre cars there all day. But one is needed and you can not please everyone.
    Lets hope its a success

These post offices in convenience stores often have quite long opening hours so it’ll be interesting to see what they do. Is the post office near High Grove still in existence?

    • John says:

Estelle – I live not far from it and use it often. Yes, will be interesting to see what hours they adopt – they already do parcel drop and collect.
The High Grove post office is long gone after a nasty robbery a few years ago. So all credit to them for opening a PO and i wish them well with it.
I have to disagree with the post of D Maycock about parking there. There are not cars there all day as he suggests. And there is plenty of free parking all around there.

If a post box is added outside/inside the convenience store, let’s hope they have the foresight to make it wide enough to take A4 envelopes. Most of the surrounding area ones cannot, despite this being the 21st century.
