Cllr Graham Greenhalgh is pressing Stockport Council to finally fix the flooding outside the Gatley Green Co-op, which has been getting steadily worse.
“I’ve lived in Gatley for 30 years, I’ve not witnessed it this bad on the Co-op side of the road. ” said Graham, who has asked the Council to act.
The Lib Dem team have raised the issue in the past, but clearly the problem has not been sorted.
“This level of flooding is unacceptable,” said Graham “The Council needs to act now.”

Can you also press for the gully outside No.18 Old Hall Road? This has been flooding after EVERY rainstorm and covers the whole pavement. Pedestrians have to walk on the road outside the line of the parked cars and this is proving very unsafe after dark.
I can’t understand why the gully gulper was not out and about last week after the heavy rain. The presence on puddles in the channel clearly indicates the blocked gullies.
I tried to report them all on the Council website but it only let me report one before falling over. I also e-mailed the web-content link, all to no reply. It’s a shambles.
Thanks Alan – we have reported that (and had it cleaned out) a few times before and it obviously needs to be done again
Cheadle has also been under water particularly the High street and is desperate for gullies to be cleaned to help prevent huge puddles (lakes) making a walk along footpaths a challenge particularly as vehicles are speeding through the water without due care let alone honouring the highway code. It’s bad enough trying to keep dry from the rain above without having to run the gauntlet with surface water.
Absolutely agree Moira – while the Co-op is an especially bad example, we’ve been reporting flooding and pooling issues right across Cheadle and Gatley. Cheadle was also harder hit by the flooding last summer.
This is a widespread problem. It is largely down to a lack of routine maintenance. Drains require cleaning and flushing through regularly. It is not necessarily the quantity of rain in a short time, although initially this may take time to clear.
The entrance that to Electra House including the pavement on Stockport Road, extending into the road, is like a pond and if a car comes by when trying to cross this area, its look out, be quick or get drowned in dirty water.
I agree with Margaret – the flooding out side Electra House in Cheadle and extends further back along Stockport Road towards Stockport is terrible. It has never been fixed – even when road works were undertaken. There seems to be a huge problem on that side of Stockport Road and it needs to be addressed asap. Never mind Gately – how about Cheadle!
Cheadle issues for the list.,
At the bus stop by Janna Restaurant Gatley Rd. The pavement floods due to blocked drain. There is standing water in the road. Bus comes along and more water pours onto footpath.
Pedestrian and would- be bus users get wet.
The entrance to the church has recently been impassable, not seen that in previous years….
When you have a council which is s badly managed by the current chief exec and you live on the edge of the borough you wont get much help, for example, look at the utter state of styal roads road surface all the way to heald green and it has been like that for many many years, then they openen it up full scale as a major route from the new airport bypass which only shows the utter stupidity and complete lack of planing from the council, styal road was never built for the amount of traffic it now gets and is crumbling on a daily basis, as i have said before, the chief exec needs to take himself for a long walk on a short pier, he is a complete waste of space, you only have to look at that new cinema developement in stockport, it looks like a throwback from 1970’s bad design, i am certain it will be demolished and rebuilt again in a few years from now, what a waste of money!
