Belmont Care Home safety concerns

by Lib Dem team on 17 May, 2021

The Lib Dem team are concerned about the safety of the former Belmont Care Home on Schools Hill.

The semi-derelict building now has broken windows, a damaged wall and regular visits from the police and fire brigade to deal with fires, vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Efforts by the owners to secure the site have been ineffective: a security fence that’s easily moved with a gap at the bottom large enough to slip under.

“We have contacted the owners and made clear that security needs to improve,” said Cllr Iain Roberts. “This is a locally listed building and it’s not acceptable that it’s being allowed to fall into the this state. Neighbours are also suffering with anti-social behaviour.”

A planning application was submitted last July to convert Belmont into flats, and build new town houses in the grounds.

I have read all of your report, but can you say what happened about this planning application. I am sure that there would be no objections to it from people living on Schools Hill. Something needs doing urgently.

Listed Building !!!!!!!! Owners will leave it for the yobs to wreck/set fire to and then it will have to be demolished.
Seen this trick many times with listed property in the way of development.

Such a shame to see what has happened to this once loved Children’s Home. I was here for several years when a young boy and had the best years of my life here. To see what has happened is a discrace by the owners.
