Travellers break onto Grange Park playing fields

Early on Wednesday morning we learnt that overnight a group of travellers had appeared on the playing fields behind Grange Park Road and Whitegates Road in Cheadle. We immediately contacted the council team, asking that the necessary steps were taken to remove them from the field. We have been checking on progress through the day.

We are very pleased the group has now moved on. We are grateful for the prompt action of council officers and the local police which helped to ensure that we were not faced with a lengthy occupation, requiring welfare assessments and the whole legal process to go through.

Our thanks as well to the local resident who parked his vehicle across the entrance to the field to prevent any risk of further access overnight.

Contractors attended to carry out the necessary repairs to the gate.

We will ensure that the council learns any lessons from this occupation to limit the risk of future incursions.

The gate locks are obviously not working surely it is worth spending more money on better devices than occurring the cost of removal and clearing up of the illegal visitors they comeback year after year and cut them off. There is a post with a medium size lock fitted at the bottom onto the field on Brookfield road that could be cut off in 5 seconds even the council mowers just drive round it total waste of money.

I Could hear them breaking in during the middle of the night it was very loud and it went on for some time so the locks may be stronger than you think.

As stated, travellers broke in-will there be any charges, or as usual, are we just thankful that they have gone, and pick up any bill? Their ethnicity means they don’t abide by the law.
I would also like to thank the brave person for blocking the entrance.

Actually I talked to someone who was there and the police told people to stand aside and watched while the travellers broke the lock on the barrier.

That’s the state of today’s police AND the state of the country. The filth left behind apparently is appalling.

Referring to the previous post from Alan. I would have thought the UK law system with regard to travelling people should be looked at, not the police who often have to abide by laws that were appropriate maybe 50 or 60 years ago but are totally unsuitable nowadays.

I thought local authorities were obliged to provide legal campsites for the travelling community. Is there such a site in Stockport?

I read that a report on crime and travellers is being held up by the Woke Brigade.
