Update: this planning application has been withdrawn. We don’t know the reason why, but we think it’s likely that a similar planning application will be submitted in the near future.
A planning application has been submitted for four new homes to be built on the site of the High Grove pub on Silverdale Road, Gatley.
Local councillors made the pub an Asset of Community Value (ACV) in 2015, which meant that Hydes had to wait six months before selling to give the community group a chance to come up with an offer.
Despite the Friends of High Grove making a good offer to Hydes to keep the pub going, Hydes deciding to close the pub. The proposal is now to build four houses on it.
You can see the proposals and comment on them here.
Please bear in mind that planning law does not allow the council to reject the application on the basis that we’d prefer to keep the pub. As far as we can tell, Hydes have followed all the rules in selling land and the application can only be rejected on valid planning grounds.

No objections from me
No issues except – this the fastest most dangerous bend, and cars will try to enter and exit on a blind bend!
When I read your northern powerhouse article, I can’t comment as it asks for a sign in, why is it different to these posts?
Because it’s on a different website and comments aren’t enabled there.
Shame it’s gone, but next best use would be residential in my opinion. I assume the pub wasn’t making any money so it was probably a business decision, very much like the 50+% of voters who chose to leave the EU, using their extensive business skills to make their decision!
Robert – i think that you are getting a little ahead. In the header it says planning application has been withdrawn.
I was the Postman for 7yrs and now Retired I do papers from Bernards Highgrove Store, and would definitely not recommend buying a house there as most of the year you get no sunlight and in winter frost last’s all day when its already melted at top of Silverdale and from Kendal southwards on Silverdale. And as John says will not belong before there is a serious accident with the cut thro traffic.
So let’s see
So nice to finally meet you David!
Those are good comments that you make.
Surely a valid planning point would be to use the space for community use such as a child play area – the housing close by must have many youngsters whose parents would welcome such a facility.
