Another application for Heald Green multi-storey car park

by Lib Dem Team on 10 November, 2016

We reported on a previous application for a large multi-storey car park on the Heald Green border. It was rejected by Manchester Council.

Now the applications have resubmitted the application. The new application is for 2,144 cars (slightly fewer than before) and some other small changes.

The Lib Dem team remain very concerned that such a large car park on the edge of Heald Green is likely to result in more traffic on Styal Road and Finney Lane.

You can see the application and have your say here.

Totally against this proposal,i live off Styal rd and Brown lane. The lights where this carpark will be sited is already an accident blackspot, enough is enough, save our beautiful green belt.

I’m against Carpark on Orwell drive Heald green I live on Styal road your ruining area with car parks and that horrid hungry horse pub

  3. Karen Howman says:

Irwell drive I meant near Heald green. I’m totally against it!

  4. Alan Gent says:

Tried to have my say but the link just defaults to a “server problem”.

  5. Kaleem latif says:

Traffic is horrendous at this junction as is gatley rd. Tail backs, accidents. NO NO!!!

  6. jb says:

The present car park is an eyesore anyway. We do not want it made worse. This locality is gradually deteriorating with the addition of seemingly endless car park requirements when there are perfectly good rail, tram, coach, bus and taxis available to reach the airport. These obviate the need to leave cars in car parks.

I preferred this area when it was a green field!

  7. Adele Gregory says:

Traffic is already gridlocked in that area – surely this shouldn’t get the go ahead?

  8. John says:

I oppose ths application. Adele says exactly what i think – we already have gridlock in that area at peak times and sometimes at other times too.

The plan above seems to indicate that the entry and exit would be on Irvin Drive. Would that mean a new set of traffic lights at the head of Irwin Drive, making 3 sets in that 100 yard stretch?

The link to see the application isn’t working.

  9. Jean Skitt says:

Absolutely opposed to it..traffic will be increased in what is already a black spot and it will be an eyesore….no no no…..

  10. Mr S Powell says:

There is too much traffic already – I am totally opposed to this application. Mr S Powell

  11. David Maycock says:

I am opposed too its already a black spot junction. But having said that will we have a say as it is Manchester not Stockport
I volunteer in Wythenshawe Park and know Manchester Council i think it might go thro this time as i think they may quote the opening of the Airport Link next Autumn as lessening the traffic around here quite a lot ?

  12. Julie B says:

tried to access link to plans via M/C city council website but said ‘server down’ will keep trying…..anyone else had problems?

  13. David Johnson says:

I use this junction regularly and agree with all the preceding comments. It is true that shopping parking in Heald Green is sometimes stretched but to nowhere near the capacity intended for the new park! So what is its purpose – airport parking no doubt and income for the parks owner – to the detriment of the village and its character. “Money Rules over All”.

  14. Eric Radcliffe says:

David Johnson is right “Money Rules over All”. No consideration is given to the congestion or regular accidents that occur at this junction already. I question whether new road link will make travelling along Finney Lane any easier. Parkinson’s Law applies “See a space and fill it”. Reject the application.

  15. Lesley says:

Totally out of order, this is a village not an industrial area take it over to the other side of the airport.
Peter Ashley should either go back to gardening or retire!!!

  16. I live close to the proposed car park and I object on the following grounds:.
1.The large junction next to the car park is an accident blackspot and gridlocked from 7.30am to 9.30am and from 3.30pm to 7.30pm. The infrastructures is not in place to support more cars.
    2. Environmental issues: We should be encouraging airport users to use public transport rather than bring more cars into a congested area.
    3. There are too many floodlit car parks in Heald Green already causing eyesores.
    4. The proposed spot is in a residential area, the floodlights and harsh and ugly appearance will affect the well-being of local residents.
    5. There is no public good to come out of building a larger car park in this area, no jobs will be created, it will negatively affect the well being of local residents and it will benefit only the greedy business owners of these concrete monstrosities.

  17. Anthony Petrie says:

Madness, money driven madness. Is the intention to make Heald Green a suburb of the airport or perhaps to make the airport its own small town. There is plenty of green space closer to the airport to build a muti-story car park if its needed that badly

  18. Diane Brook says:

I oppose this car park. As others have said this is a terribly dangerous junction and the traffic is dreadful. More traffic to this car park will compound the issue greatly 🙁

  19. James Cheadle says:

Cheadle Gatley and Heald Green are already gridlocked.l as it is. That junction is already a nightmare at rush hour. Until they can sort the road network to better effect there’s no point in adding to the issue.
