One of Stockport Labour’s budget proposals is an increase in the cost of a permit for low emission (Band A) cars from £10 to £360.
The low charge was introduced by the Lib Dems as a discount to encourage more drivers to buy low-emission cars.
You can have your say on this budget proposal, along with Labour’s plan to only collect the black bins every three weeks, here.

Slightly above the rate of inflation. Absolutely absurd.
A Car is a Car and parking charges should be the same for all cars,
Have to agree, it needs as much space as an non ‘low emission car.
Also, the emissions caused by driving a car, are not the total emissions caused by a car. Much will be through manufacture and distribution.
My understanding for band A cars in Stockport is that it is sufficient to display the DVLA description of the car being so but, and to use the words from the SMBC website, you could pay £10 for a permit to display this fact. So there is no compunction to buy a permit and it’s free to park in SMBC carparks.
How does the Labour proposal square with this?
I agree with all of the above & therefore have nothing to add, except my support. MR S POWELL
I agree with the above comment, that they should all be the same. Its a parking space. Besides, ‘low emission’ cars may produce reduced Carbon, CO2 and CO, but they are still producing hazardous gases from the oil and diesel particulates as other cars do.
Its simply penalizing those who may not be able to buy a small but nice new efficient car. If the Council want to give me a load of cash towards a new car, may be I could have one!
