New Cheadle Hulme schools planning application goes live

The planning application for new primary and secondary schools to be build on the Cheadle College site, in addition to the existing college, is now online. You can see the plans and comment here.

The Lib Dem team can see benefits in having more good local schools, but we are concerned about the implications for traffic, with two new schools adding to congestion on the already-busy Cheadle Road.

We are also concerned that, while Stockport does need more secondary capacity, the location so close to Kingsway is not the right one and a better site would be in the central Stockport area where the need for places is higher.

These are free schools? So more
Money diverted from state education for barking mad projects with dubious curricula and in the wrong place too.
    It’s a NO from me!

I fully agree with Alan’s comment above

I am in favour children need educating a bit of traffic congestion twice a day is a small price to pay.

I completely disagree with the above comments. I want more choice for my child then Kingsway. Competition is healthy, if schools have to compete for children, they work harder at making themselves more attractive. There’s been no completion for Kingsway for years, so this is definitely a good thing.

Janet you’re living in a dream world. Kingsway has consistently scored highly for years. Competition in education? No, education should be about standardisation and about helping schools achieve consistent scores across the board. Your view is all about the Tory view of a market driven situation in education as in many other areas of society, which actually don’t work.

Additional schools are only needed where there aren’t sufficient school places Free schools are set up on a whim, several have failed through poor planning and management. Money for education should be put into established schools meeting the needs of local pupils. We do not need additional places in Cheadle / Cheadle Hulmr.

  6. David Johnson says:

I generally agree with Alan & Judi. The traffic problem is more general and will rapidly worsen as more people are crammed into the area adding to the need for more schools as well as other services. But the current need is not in Cheadle and in the suggested area by Cheadle Road.
