by Lib Dem team on 15 July, 2017

Iain and the Lib Dem team have launched our Cheadle and Gatley 2017 Residents Survey to find out what you think about key issues and so you can tell us the issues you want us to be working on.

Please take a couple of minutes to fill it in – the more people who complete it, the better we can understand your views.

You can complete the survey here.

This is my response sent to Mary Robinson’s leaflet.
“The Title “Working hard for you in Cheadle” is ironic when the Cheadle constituency is sliced into two by the A34 and will be even more damaged when the proposed housing increases further south are under way!
New houses – as any person (and politician) will know – require much more than land area. Access to local facilites including recreation areas, community facilities such as clubs, schools and social amenities are important. But in already crowded areas such as East Cheshire the planning must cover impact on existing communities.
It is certain that every additional house south of Cheadle will add to the need for transport to Manchester – either for daily employment or for recreational visits to shows, etc.! The burden on Cheadle area is already overloaded and needs drastic traffic reduction. We have recently had to put up with Bus Services running through crowded housing estates for example via St. Annes road as well as significant deterioration of road surfaces due to the heavy constant traffic and even more deadly is traffic air pollution, noise pollution and effect on foot traffic – such as obesity.
If Mary Robinson you really intend to “work hard for us in Cheadle” you will reverse the housing growth and put resources into diverting traffic away from crowded populations. You will also protect Green Belt from any and all destruction.
    From David Johnson”
