Violent crime up, but reporting crime is hard

A couple of days ago I was on my way home when a motorcyclist tore past me at high speed along a residential street, weaving past cars, bikes and pedestrians. It was in Manchester rather than Stockport, and I happened to see which house the biker went to and got the details.

A PCSO happened to be passing – she had seen the biker whizz past. I gave her what details I had, and she asked me to call 101.

I tried that evening but, after 20 minutes on hold I gave up.

Later in the week I called again, this time first thing in the morning. I got through after only ten minutes on hold and was able to report not only the issue I witnessed but also the continuing problem with off-road bikes especially over in Cheadle around the Whitegates Road/Oak Road area.

This week we had the news of a big increase in crime, as the BBC reported:

Crime in England and Wales has seen its largest annual rise in a decade, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The total number of crimes reported to and recorded by the police rose by 10% between April 2016 and March 2017 to almost five million.

Violent crime was up by 18%, robbery by 16% and sex offences by 14%.

The figures come as Home Office data shows the number of police officers is the lowest since 1985.

We need to sort this out!

I agree Iain we do need to sort this out so what is happening from your end and is there any input from our vanishing MP after the General Election.?

My elderly disabled friend in Gatley had opioids stolen from her home. Still waiting for a visit from the police.

It was blindingly obvious some years ago when the Conservative Government drastically cut Police funding that this would happen! Forces had to cut office back-up staff (hence less recorded potential crimes & phone responses to Public calls) and reduce Officers numbers so pressuring them not to note all their own worries and reducing follow-ups. The criminal fraternity love this and live by it (Conservatives applaud entrepreneurs). It also pressurises individuals to buy more alarms etc.
