Councillors to meet Manchester Airport next month

by Lib Dem team on 17 August, 2018

Local councillors will be meeting with Manchester Airport in about a month. We think there are quite a few issues  to raise, around drop-off charges and parking for example. But we want your views and experiences. What would you be saying if you were in the room?

  1. Chris says:

Can you ask them what is being done to stop all those online secure parking companies from abandoning cars on our streets ?

  2. Robert Cohen says:

They are using security as a way to raise funds. It is disgraceful. The airport experience is unpleasant at best. There should be 30-45 minutes free for pick up! (And an easy drop off)

  3. Andy says:

When are they going to provide a waiting area for black cab drivers with toilet facilities. Areas close to the airport are literally used as toilets.

  4. I have seen an official taxi waiting area with rest cabin and toilets, etc. It was opposite the the “Airport” pub on the road leading up to T3.

  5. Mike says:

A parking marshall told me that they did an experiment before the charges and were able to unload a 54 seater bus in 5 mins hence why the time limit for drop off. Not sure if I believe that but do not see why the drop off time could be free for 10 mins before a charge is made. That would be 5 to drop off and 5 to queue up to get out!
Also £100 fine for picking up in a drop off area! What if you drop off and pick somebody up at the same time and location?
I appreciate the reason for charging. The minority have spoilt the facility for the majority – using the drop off for waiting for somebody to appear. The parking marshalls tried to stop this but some of them did turn a blind eye. Now we are all having to suffer the inconvenience.

  6. Julie Camm says:

I would think its fairly local people who drop off at the airport, and we already put up with aircraft noise, fields being turned into car parks etc, yet we’re penalised with the drop-off charge too. Seems unfair.

  7. John Ellis says:

Please ask them to extend the free drop off to Manchester Airport Railway station to residents in heald green, cheadle and Gatley. How can it be SK9 is covered and not SK8? When we’re the same distance.

  8. Hilary says:

A southbound ticket machine so that travellers going to the airport do not have to haul all their luggage up to the northbound platform to purchase a ticket before descending and lugging it all back up the other side. (Feels worse in the rain or at 05:34 a.m!) Or let them pay on the train or at the airport without risk of fine.

  9. John H says:

You will have talks but you will make no headway with those money grabbing (trying to think of something polite) people. (couldn’t print my initial thought)

  10. Paul T says:

Please can you ask them what is being done to reduce the noise pollution it is particularly horrendous when the planes take off over this area often in summer months.

  11. Karen Sandler says:

There are many issues to take up with them. The parking charges have been introduced to fund the new terminal 1 and the great expansion of terminal 2. You can’t fight it, but you can ask why they have implemented it so badly and what they are doing about it. The way they have been introduced and resulting chaos beggars belief. The passengers suffer.

When are they going to get enough staff and open enough lanes through security? The staff are very grump too. The passengers suffer queues and stress.

When are they going to engage more border security staff to stop the often horrendous queues through passport control. The passengers suffer.

There are awful and ongoing maintenance issues leading to blocked escalators and stairs. This is particularly hard for the visually impaired.
I have been waging a one-person complaint with the airport for nearly 2 years. I am supposed to be meeting with the head of customer service and security tomorrow. I’ll let you know what happens.

  12. David Johnson says:

In any land area there are only facilities for certain numbers of residents – as well as housing there are transport links, shop and food supplies, recreation areas (especially for children), waste disposal, air cleansing communications etc. etc. Already this area is over compressed and tied in knots. Local decision makers are limited to their appointed functions. The overall planning is clearly ineffective in seeing the whole picture i.e. the Government. Continued expansion of the airport is a major cause of internal issues – drop off & pick-up as well as road & rail compaction outside !!. What is the solution?
