The Red Lion Petrol Station was approved for an alcohol licence this evening by Stockport Council. The applicant amended their application at the last minute (in my view cynically) to ensure they got the licence they needed.
The good news is – it won’t be open 24 hours serving “refreshments”
The bad news is – despite 27 submissions of objection from local residents, the council supported the application.
Thanks to everyone that submitted comments and to those that turned up and spoke at the meeting – not the result we all wanted but it was at least heartening to see people come together for their community ?
The council will ensure people are informed.

Thank you Stockport council for letting us down again.!!
To paraphrase the late, great Terry-Thomas : Stockport Council is an absolute shower!
No doubt the people that passed it through don’t live in that area.
It will not be long before we have complaints of booze fuelled anti-social behaviour along Stockport Road
and The Diamond Jubilee Park
A very bad decision by the Council.
Did the Council not get the Drink Drive message, selling alcohol on a Garage forecourt is madness.
This garage already sells fuel at the highest price in the area it surely is not struggling to survive.
There are already plenty of outlets selling booze on Stockport Road until 10pm. I wonder how the convenience stores will cope with the competition? When will some entrepreneur open a brothel in Cheadle, I’m sure the council would oblige with the necessary planning permits! Oh, how about a 24 hour casino to boot!
