Police report 9-15 March 2019

by Lib Dem team on 18 March, 2019

An update on incidents and work in the Cheadle & Bramhall ward for the period Saturday9th March to Friday 15th March.

Burglary figures have fallen again this week, with 13 recorded crimes. As always, any burglary is too many and I feel deeply for the victims.

I reported last week that an 18 year old male had been arrested following a burglary on Sudbury drive. Of note two other males were arrested, charged and remanded for vehicle crime burglaries in the Wythenshawe area last week. These two have links to the male arrested on Sudbury Drive. I’m hopeful that this is another team that has been disrupted and this partly explains the drop in burglaries.

Two youths were stopped in the Bramhall area at around 05:00m hours one morning last week. They were searched but had nothing on them to link them to any recent burglaries. They are already known to GMP and their names have been referred on to partner agencies who will start some enforcement work by other means.

The officers on my team who have been on late shifts have dropped back to work through into the early hours. We have also introduced a new shift pattern on Division for the response officers which re-arranges the reliefs, providing a slight increase in numbers giving us some more capacity for hot-spot patrolling.

With regard to the 13 reported they break down as follows: Distraction burglary, Brookfields Park, Cheadle – offenders have tricked their way into an 88 year old residents house and stolen his bank card.

Woodford, Cheadle and Gatley have been the key areas with 3 crimes reported in each respective area. Heald Green suffered 2 crime reports and Bramhall North and Bramhall South 1 each. No entry was gained in 2 of the reports as the offenders made off once the house alarm sounded. The preferred method of entry is via rear patio doors, with the door lock being snapped out.

Vehicles were the target on the vast majority of the crimes, with either the actual cars being stolen or the car keys. There have been 2 robberies reported. One was at 13:30 on Friday 15th March on Cheadle Road. A man was grabbed by three youths who threatened him with a knife. The man was able to get into a nearby shop and the youths ran off. There are positive lines of enquiry with this crime. The second robbery was at 16:00 hours on Thursday 14th March when an 11 year old lad was threatened by two youths and had his pedal cycle stolen. This occurred on Parkside Walk, Bramhall.

There have been two reports of a large group of youths in the Cheadle Hulme area causing anti-social behaviour. One was on Friday 15th March at 21:30 on Bellfield Avenue, Cheadle Hulme. The other was on Saturday 9th March at 17:00 on Thorn Grove. I had asked for the overtime patrols to cover this area as part of their patrol plan. Patrols did attend shortly after the reports came in, but the youths had moved on. I think that the poor weather helped keep the number of ASB reports down.

Officers from my team have been supporting and working with our local Muslim community following the tragic attack in New Zealand. We already have close contacts with the local mosques and the positive relationships are already there. I am not aware of any negative incidents in the Cheadle or Bramhall area.

Ref: Arrests in Wythenshawe area: are they in relation to the recent spate of car breakins in Gatley? One of our neighbours was threatened with a knife and we have formed a whatsapp group of 44. It would be good to report some success!
