Police report 6-18 April

by Lib Dem team on 18 April, 2019

Report from our local Police for 6-18 April 2019:

An update on incidents and work in the Cheadle & Bramhall ward for the period Saturday 6th April to Thursday 18th April, a period of 13 days. I took a few days leave last week, hence the extended reporting period.

Burglary figures have remained lower again this period, with 16 recorded crimes. Of these 5 were break-ins to garages, no entry was gained in another 5, and 3 involved the theft of a vehicle.

The latest break-in was on Hulme Hall Road, Cheadle Hulme yesterday morning when a thief was disturbed inside the address.  One of the garage breaks was on Styal Road on Tuesday morning and another on Lorna Grove, Gatley during the day on Monday. There was a third garage break on Axminster Walk, Bramhall on Saturday 13th April during the afternoon, and another on Chester Road, Woodford on Friday night.

There was a burglary on Outwood Road, Heald Green overnight on Thursday 11th April where a vehicle was stolen. The car crashed nearby at around 05:00 hours and a local resident and a passing off-duty police officer tried to detain the two men in the car, but after a struggle were unable to keep hold of them. There are on-going enquiries here.

While burglary figures have gone down we have suffered an increase in the number of robberies. There was a robbery in Bruntwood Park, Cheadle on Sunday 14thApril and two robberies in William Scholes Park, Gatley, one on the 12th April and one on the 8th April. In each case a group of teenage males have approached youngsters, threatened them and demanded their property. Enquiries are on-going into these crimes and I have the PCSO’s patrolling the area during the afternoon and early evening.

With regard to the series of robberies in the Gatley and Cheadle area towards the end of March / early April detectives have arrested 5 youths from the Wythenshawe area. They have all been interviewed and house searches conducted. The investigation is still progressing.

Anti-Social behaviour in the Hulme Hall Road area has escalated over the past couple of weeks, with numerous reports of a group of youths throwing eggs and stones at passing cars. I’ve had patrols in the area, and Response officers have been doing area searches during the evening and nights shifts, but so far the kids are giving us the run around.

I would appeal to anyone who may know the names of these youths to provide the details – it can be done via Crimestoppers (0800 555111) if people wish to remain anonymous.

I hope that you all have a peaceful Easter break.

Kind regards

Rob Hawksley

I suppose with resources being what they are now, a return to the days when the police provided a team of offers to carry out community contact have gone. Then, the provided a minibus and officers to take kids off the streets and into meaningful activity. Dennis Bishop, Ivor Edwards were the names I worked with as a youth worker in Sharston, Wythenshawe. The death of the council run youth service has a lot to answer for. Shame! The result can be seen on a daily basis.

Lamentable and incompetent are the only words to describe the detective work conducted by the Police over the last twelve months in response to the crime wave that has engulfed SK8. The public deserve and, rightly so, expect much better policing, quality not quantity. There is only one answer – detection, arrest, prosecution. The culprits need to go in fear of arrest and punishment, presently it’s the residents who go in fear!
