Lib Dems press for train parking ticket cancellation

Gatley station car park : potholes, faded lines & poor security

The Lib Dem team are working to have parking tickets handed out an Gatley station cancelled and no further tickets issued until the car park is brought up to a legal standard.

A residents was recently given a £50 fine for parking over the lines in the car park, despite the fact that the lines are faded and in some cases completely invisible.

Back in 2011 Northern tried handing out parking tickets, but after the Lib Dems intervened they promised that they would not do it again until the car park was brought up to a reasonable standard with lines repainted. That has not happened.

We also believe that the car park enforcement is most likely illegal: not only are the lines badly faded but the signs detailing the parking rules are too small to be read by a driver and not in a position to be read by anyone walking from their car to the train.

“Not content with giving passengers a hopelessly poor service on the trains, they are now trying to extract money from their sorry excuse for a station car park,” said Cllr Iain Roberts. “We want outstanding tickets cancelled or refunded and no further tickets issued until the car park is brought up to a decent standard.”

  1. Completely agree with this – could we have some feedback on progress with Northern to get these tickets cancelled as this develops.

Also some time ago you reported that car park tickets in Cheadle related to two separate parking zones – so tickets for east were only valid in east and the same for west even though the east ticket machine is much closer to west’s parking for ca 50% of spaces. Has this ridiculous and in my view aggressive and ignorant approach from the council been resolved ? ie east and west tickets can be used in either car park?

    Thanks
