What’s coming up at Cheadle Area Committee, 28 Jan 2020

by Lib Dem team on 21 January, 2020

Next week’s Cheadle Area Committee is at Trinity methodist church, Massie Street, Cheadle at 6pm on Tuesday 28 Jan 2020. As always, all are welcome. There are no planning applications coming to committee this month so it looks like being a relatively short agenda.

We are considering:

  • Application for £500 towards a defibrilator (total cost £2000) for Cheadle Hulme town centre.
  • No planning applications
  • Proposals for cycling and walking improvements between the A555 Relief Road and Cheadle Hulme as part of the Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund.
  • Proposals for cycling and walking improvements on Bird Hall Road, Councillor Lane and Cheadle Road as part of hte Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund.
  • Proposal to install two new park benches in Diamond Jubilee Park, Cheadle.

Its good that they,re thinking about cycling lanes but I dont see the point in just having one here and there. What happens when a cyclist gets to the end of Birdhall lane and the cycle lane stops? They,re back on the road again with no cycle path. Same for Cheadle road or Councillor lane. Shouldnt there be one all the way to Stockport or to a specific destination? Manchester has them from Didsbury all the way to Manchester town centre.

Hi Janet – you’re rightthat’s exactly the strategy behind the work. We’re aiming to get safe cycle routes end-to-end. But there’s no way to build everything in one go, so it will take a bit of time as the network gets better. We currently have a safe cycle route into Stockport along the Mersey, and the aim is to have more.

    Just a random question.
Are taxis licenced in other areas legally allowed to operate in Stockport/Manchester?
    Eg a Wolverhampton licence plate?

  4. does the cost of the defibrillator include the cost of training someone to use it? How do we know that the person is trained? I wouldn’t want an enthusiastic amateur practising on me.

I would like to know why signs were put up on Broadway around Kingsway school and side roads preventing parking during certain times. These are totally ignored and traffic, particularly around 3.00/3.30.pm, on Broadway is impossible and quite often gridlocked. Also it would be impossible for emergency vehicles to get down Cherington Rd. or Arlington Rd. Why put up signs and then never check to see if they are being adhered to.
