Lib Dems pursue missing bridge netting

by Lib Dem team on 28 May, 2021

The Lib Dem team have been working to get the netting restored on the Gatley station railway bridge.

With no netting, pigeons gather under the bridge. The pigeon poo ends up on the toucan crossing – not great for anyone getting across the road.

We assumed it would be Network Rail at fault, but no! Network Rail have come back to us and say that Stockport Council maintain the netting under licence to Network Rail.

We’ve asked the Council to look into the issue – we’ll report back when we hear more.

Please paint the bridge while you’re there, it looks so ugly compared to the beautiful one in Cheadle.

The response from NR is completely bogus. Many years ago there was netting put up by the council but this was removed so NR could do an inspection. Subsequently and following a high profile case elsewhere regarding responsibilities regarding pigeon fouling which NR lost, they attempted to put up the current mess.
Go back to NR, it’s the property owners responsibility to act regarding fouling. There is no licence with the Council.

      HI Alan,

Network Rail have sent us a copy of the licence agreement with Stockport Council, which we’ve passed onto the council so we’ll see what they say. The licence looks pretty real to me.
