In brief: some of the jobs keeping the Lib Dem team busy this week

by Lib Dem team on 3 June, 2021

Every now and again we like to report back on some of the issues we’ve been dealing with that might only affect one street or area. Here’s a selection from this week’s postbag, and thank you to all the residents who report issues to us.

Commercial bin left on Wilmslow Road

A commercial bin has been abandoned on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle near the post office. After we reported it, the council is working to get it removed.

Car driver destroys Brookfield bollard

A bollard at the end of Brookfield Road, at the start of the path to the park, was hit by a car driver (a registration plate was helpfully left at the scene). We reported it to the council and it’s now been coned off. It will be made safe and then a new bollard installed.

Broadway flowerbed

We’ve asked the council to take a look at the flowerbed at the junction of Broadway and Wilmslow Road – it needs a bit of care and attention!

Missing paving stone on Gatley old graveyard

A paving stone on the path into the old graveyard by Gatley Medical Centre has been pinched. The council has now made it safe. It’s a real shame – we won’t be able to get a old flag to replace it so whatever goes in will look out of place.

South Park Road Estate

The junction between South Park Road and the motorway slip road has always been a problem. Back in March we reported that the Keep Clear marking need repainting. We were told it would be done inside three months, so hopefully we’ll see that soon. This week we’ve reported the grass growing too high at the junction, limiting visibility. It’s a problem every year, but Highways England always seem to need to be told.

Belmont Care Home

We’ve continued to press the owner of the Belmont Care Home on Schools Hill to improve security. We’re very concerned that someone will be badly hurt or the building seriously damaged if nothing is done.

Litter picking

Once again, we’d like to thank everyone who helps the community by picking litter. We’re finding that little-and-often has a big effect, and we’ve been out in recent weeks doing our bit.

Iain – I’d just emailed you about the South Park issues – and then I read here that you’re already onto them.

By the by, if Highways England concreted over this little area, the weeds wouldnt grow and they wouldnt have to attend to it every year. Seems shortsighted not to get the concrete mixer out.

Any chance the missing bollard at end of Carrs passage will be replaced..
Last week a car drove all the way along the pavement and across end of the passage
I witnessed this as i was walking …
    The bollard is a necessity
    Thank you

What is happening on the fields in Bruntwood Park rn to Schools Hill? We seem to have lost a really nice piece of grassed land for a more wild look…. what’s the thought process behind it ?

You have still done nothing to improve the crossing at Longley Lane and Park Road to make it safe for pedestrians.
I do not accept that the only way this can be done is as a favour from the Manchester councillors.

Just pick up the phone and tell them it needs sorting or are you more interested in flower beds and loose paving stones than the safety of children crossing those roads.

I have been asking for this to be dealt with for almost 6 years.

Well done for again highlighting South Park estate’s major safety measures. Residents leaving the estate bound for Cheadle via the inside lane are blocked from crossing into that lane because the hatching has virtually disappeared. The grass at the slip road entry is also dangerously overgrown due to the balmy weather, but should still be monitored for important resident safety. Advise mothering them to death until they act. It’s a real lottery exiting, particularly is there is outside lane going to Gstley village/Wythenshawe or going to Cheadle. Keep up the momentum and maintain your success rates councillors- you’re our voice in these matters of quality of life.
