No change for Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 8 June, 2021

The Boundary Commission has released its proposals for updated constituencies across the country. There are a lot of changes across the country, but Cheadle constituency is proposed to stay the same.

Cheadle constituency consists of 7 wards, and this is proposed to stay the same:

  • Cheadle & Gatley
  • Heald Green
  • Cheadle Hulme North
  • Cheadle Hulme South
  • Bramhall North
  • Bramhall South & Woodford
  • Stepping Hill

Elsewhere in the borough, Hazel Grove constituency gains Manor ward from Stockport. Stockport constituency gains Reddish North and Reddish South from Denton and Reddish, meaning that Stockport Borough will have three constituencies wholly within its boundary.

You can find more information on the Boundary Commission website.

Note that there are two different boundary reviews going on. This is for all the parliamentary constituencies across England. The other one, which we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, is for the wards across Stockport. The two are separate, but will need to fit together as no-one wants to end up with local wards that go across parliamentary constituency boundaries.

Iain – I presume this decision doesnt impact, as such, on the ward boundaries review that you posted about some days back.

I would have thought this decision was good news – much better to have constituencies entirely within a local council area.

    Hi John,

I don’t think it impacts on ward boundaries – that’s a different organisation. However, I’d guess that they will try to avoid having wards split between two constituencies.

The proposals look reasonable for Stockport, at least in my view.
